Hello all and Happy New Year to those of you that have already welcomed 2014!! For the rest of us, I can’t believe another year has come to an end, bringing me to almost two full years of blogging and obsessing over nail polish, makeup, and other beauty products. (That is a lot of obsession!) It was also a year that brought me my own polish shade – more on that below.

To wrap up the year, I thought I would bring you some of my favourites from 2013. (Polishes in part 1, some of the other favourites will be in part 2 as this will be a picture-heavy post.)

How can I have a “favourites” list and not include my go-to nude/white alternative, OPI’s My Vampire is Buff? MVIB has quickly become a cult favourite, at least in the nail polish community, as many of us not only wear this beautiful bisque shade alone, but love to use it for nail art.

OPI_Euro_MyVampireIsBuffbse

And speaking of nail art, this was the year I ventured into the somewhat terrifying “nail art” territory, and found that I can actually nail (sorry, couldn’t resist) some cute looks!  Though hard to narrow down, my Top Ten Faves include MVIB and Essie The Girls are Out

MVIB with Zoya’s Josie….

…can’t leave out the Euro Centrale dotticure I tried (I love the entire Euro Centrale collection!)…

This was really hard to narrow down, as I have really LOVED many polish shades this year, but here are nine more of my favourite shades this year, including the amazing Selena from Nicole by OPI

Thanks for reading my second Favourites list! Hope you enjoyed this, and look for part 2, which will include some non-polish favourites!

Happy New Year!!!

happy new year 2014source

One of the cutest, most girly collections of the year was released by OPI recently – the new OPI Couture de Minnie Nail Lacquers collections. Minnie Mouse inspiration? Check. Pink and red? Check. Glitter? Check check!

And today I bring you three of these cuties to inspire your inner girly-girl!

Let’s see…. let’s start with the adorable bubble-gum pink Chic from Ears to Tail, a crelly (cream jelly) formula polish with a surprising lavender shimmer. This was the one I was most excited about, loving pink polishes as much as I do. Imagine my surprise when it applied amazingly well, even with the semi-sheer crelly formula (I am a sucker for jellies!), and had that almost invisible shimmer. I applied Chic carefully, not going over an area often as sheer polishes, especially in pale shades, can sometimes streak.

Here are two coats over base coat:

OPI_ChicFromEarstoTail

Is that not a gorgeous pink shade? Both summery and office-appropriate! Love!

Getting a few shades darker, A Definite Moust-Have is a hot fuchsia shade with a dusting of silver shimmer. The formula on this polish was amazing: a slightly thicker creme formula that provided full coverage on the first coat, it has a vibrant intensity. I used two coats over OPI’s base coat, no top coat:

OPI_ADefinite_Moust-Have

If you click on the photo, you can see the hidden pearly finish within the light reflection. I am obsessed with this polish!

And finally, Minnie Style, the glitter bomb of the collection, a clear base filled with red, white and pink small hex glitters. A versatile glitter polish, I was impressed by Minnie Style. Though a bit on the thick side, you don’t have to dig for glitters and the polish disperses a good amount on each stroke.

Here is Minnie Style over Chic from Ears to Tail:

OPI_ChicFromEars_MinnieStyle

And over A Definite Moust-Have:

OPI_ADefiniteMoust-have_MinnieStyle

Finally, you know I couldn’t leave you without sandwiching some glitter! How adorable did this jelly sandwich with Chic from Ears to Tail, Minnie Style, and a coat of I Theodora You from OPI’s Oz Collection turn out?

Hey guys! Today I bring you one of my favourite types of manis… another jelly sandwich!

Some of the prettiest fine glitter polishes are created by indie brand Shimmer Polish. You have seen a lot of them on my blog (have a look)!  Cindy, its creator, has countless variations of these gorgeous, complex shimmer-blend polishes, mixing both expected and surprising colours together for beautiful effect.  One such polish is Mary, described as being mainly red, silver and black glitter in a soft-red tinted base, though there are some holographic glitters as well as other shades. I told you they were complex blends! Mary is incredibly glittery; sparkle-and-wink-at-you-while-you’re-driving kind of glitter! And you know how I feel about all things jelly!! This jelly base is so squishy that it looks like a luscious berry.

I decided to pair it with one of my favourite jelly polishes, Paloma from Zoya’s Gloss Collection (see it here as well!). And the result was jaw-droppingly glittery, squishy, juicy!!

Here are two coats of Mary over two coats of Paloma, topped with a finishing coat of Paloma for the jelly sandwich:

Shimmer_Mary_Zoya_jellyLook at that crazy shine!!! And click the pic to see the tiny holographic sparkles lighting up at the tips of my nails.

One more pic:

This was one of those manicures I did not want to remove – I wore it for about a week before I finally had to part with it… but looking at these pictures makes me want to reapply it!

You can find Shimmer Polish here. Be sure to like them on Facebook to participate in their contests and see the latest offers!

So what do you think? Do you love it nearly as much as me? 🙂

Candeo Colors always look so pretty in the bottle, but until recently, I had not had a chance to try any of them. And the two I have today are total glitter bombs!

The first colour is Candeo’s Plumage, from their Birds of Paradise Collection. Plumage is described as having “a sheer base… loaded with silver shimmer, green, turquoise and dark blue hex glitter. A liberal amount of seafoam square glitter is also included.” There is also a lot of gold glitter, oddly left out of Candeo’s description.

Here it is, over La Femme’s Preciosa holo polish:

Candeo_Plumage_Preciosa

Isn’t it beautiful? I love this combination! Plumage was easy to apply, though I did dab some of the larger pieces of glitter into place to ensure even coverage.

The next manicure I have for you is one of my very favourite kinds… I decided to create another jelly sandwich with my next Candeo! (If you follow my blog, you know how I feel about jelly sandwiches… see this post and this post  🙂 ) Here is Candeo Joker, probably the most popular Candeo (at least for me), described as “a clear base with blue, purple, lavender and periwinkle hex glitter.  A light sprinkle of large silver hex glitter completes the mix.” This is another top coat-type polish, but instead of wearing it over a polish, I sandwiched it with my most favourite white jelly, OPI’s Funny Bunny!!!

Candeo_Joker_sandwich

At first I wasn’t sure about this combination… I wondered whether the blue and purple was too intense for Funny Bunny’s softness, but as I was looking back over the photos, I decided I love its depth and squishiness!

And here is one more pic:

Candeo_Joker_FunnyBunny

I mean, is there anything that Funny Bunny doesn’t look good with?? I wore this mani for quite a few days and would wear it again. The only downside was that I found Joker’s base very thick which made it a little difficult to use over the jelly base of Funny Bunny. It could probably use some thinner… Joker’s glitter colour combination was phenomenal though!!

Candeo Colors are available at Llarowe and on Candeo’s website. Don’t forget to follow Candeo Colors and Llarowe on Facebook!

So what do you think? Which do you like best and would you jelly sandwich Joker or Plumage?

(Some product provided for review and consideration. All opinions are my own.)

By now you probably know how I feel about my jelly polishes… especially jelly sandwiches! My last one even became my best post to date (check it out)!

For today’s post I used one of the new Selena Gomez for Nicole by OPI collection, Confetti Fun, a perfect rainbow glitterbomb, sandwiched between a base of Aphrodite Lacquers Fluerier, a pink jelly glitter, topped with my very favourite, OPI’s Funny Bunny!

NOPI Confetti Fun seems to be a near-dupe for OPI’s Rainbow Connection: it’s a rainbow-hued glitter with small and medium-sized pieces; however, what sets it apart from Rainbow Connection is its micro glitter and higher density of glitter. (Unfortunately I don’t have Rainbow to do a comparison post). I LOVE Confetti Fun and it is just perfect for jelly sandwiches!

Aphrodite Lacquers’ Fluerir was previously reviewed here and here, and Funny Bunny here and here.

Here are the bottles:

And here is the final result. (I had really filed my nails down to nubbins…)

Can you believe 2012 is almost over? This year was a big one for me… I started my new job, recently moved to our new home, started blogging and taking my polish and beauty obsession to a whole new level, and along with that, I met some amazing people in this community.

It’s been a little quiet on my blog lately, mainly due to my big move just before Christmas… I thought I would catch up, not only on a blog post or two, but also share some of my top polishes of the year (with links to the original posts).

Hope this is a fun read for you!

In no particular order, here is Aphrodite Lacquers’ It’s My Party topped with The Icing on the Cake. I immediately fell in love with this hot pink jelly (and its glittery topper), and can’t wait to wear this with a little tan!

Aphrodite_IcingOnTheCake

My most popular post, even garnering a shout-out from Suzi Weiss-Fishman, OPI’s Creative Director, on her twitter chat recently (!!), was the Monet jelly sandwich. This was created using OPI’s Funny Bunny with Shimmer Polish Linna, and it turned into one of my favourite manicures.

Shimmer_Linna_jelly_OPI_FunnyBunny2

Oh Zoya Ornate Collection, how I love thee! After patiently waiting for this gorgeous collection to arrive, I created my very first striping tape mani using Zoya Storm and Aurora:

Zoya_Ornate_nailart-2

Another day, another gorgeous Shimmer Polish! Karina, a deep vampy red jelly, is beautiful and glamorous and oh-so-sparkly!

Shimmer_Karina

I loved the sparkle of this mani: a-England’s Dorian Grey topped with Shimmer Polish Vanessa. Look at that sparkle!

Shimmer_Vanessa

And so you can see why I love Dorian Gray, look at this steely pewter:

AEngland_DorianGreyFlash

This year I also tried my very first Nubar polishes, and I fell in love. Look at shiny Nubar Espresso from the Simplicity Meets Elegance Collection:

Nubar_Espresso_Sun

From the same collection, here is Nubar Rouge, another gorgeous pink I fell in love with:

Nubar_Rouge_Sun

Up next, another of my most popular posts comes courtesy of OPI’s first foray into magnetics, from the OPI Skyfall Collection to commemorate 50 years of Bond films: OPI Magnetic Lacquer Is that Silva? I just love the holo magnetic!

OPI-Magnetic-IsThatSilva-

Blue is my favourite colour though I’ve often steered clear of it in my manicures. But Revlon Royal, especially combined with Aphrodite Lacquers’ Doorman, was something spectacular….

Aphrodite_Doorman

Who doesn’t love a sparkly linear holographic polish? The ladies at Glitter Gal have made holos their business, and let me tell you, Glitter Gal Wisteria does not disappoint!! I loved the subtlety of this light hue…

Glitter_Gal_Wisteria_Sun2

I am a fool for sparkles, and Aphrodite Lacquers Peacock Earrings was distracting. Here it is, layered over China Glaze’s Liquid Leather for optimum sparkle and shine:

Aphrodite_Peacock_Earrings

I think by now you know how much I adore jelly sandwiches. (And I should really do more of them!) Another Zoya collection that I was lusting after, Zoya Gloss, is a jelly-lover’s dream come true. Here is Zoya Frida layered with a relatively new indie, Kiss Your Elbow Polish’s A Drop in the Ocean:

Zoya-Frida Drop in Ocean Jelly
This list wouldn’t be complete without Picture Polish and their Mesh shade Tease, a glittery silvery-pink beauty that I received as part of their Blog Fest for 2012:

picturepolish_Tease_Shade

Next is a sparkly vampy black jelly courtesy of Aphrodite Lacquers, Nebula. Though I love vamps, I don’t always wear straight black polishes, unless, of course, they have a little something like Nebula does. Filled with aqua and silver glitters, Nebula has depth and sparkle:

Aphrodite_Nebula1

And last but not least, the one that started my love affair with Aphrodite Lacquers, Grapetini! I think it’s fair to say that AL is one of my favourite indies, having created a number of polishes that I wear again and again… and Grapetini, with its purple squishiness, was part of my very first AL order that was not meant to be. It has the unfortunate distinction of being my first polish to arrive smashed to pieces lol.

Aphrodite-Grapetini-3cts

And that, dear readers, is my first top… 16 list! It was meant to be a top-12 but there were simply too many that I adore. There are many more that I love and wanted to share, but in the spirit of keeping this a somewhat shortish blog post, not all the beauties could be included… Perhaps I will share another top-12 list soon.

Hope you enjoyed this post as much as I have enjoyed selecting my favourites. May the New Year bring you and your loved ones much joy and happiness, success and love.

Today I have for you another jelly sandwich! This one was photographed in the fall but I didn’t get a chance to post it with all of the things that have been going on lately (my big move)….

You may remember my adoration of the Zoya Gloss trio, a collection of perfect jellies that I cannot get enough of (see more here and here!). In this mani, I used Zoya Katherine, along with one of my favourite indie brands, Aphrodite Lacquers…. squished together in a jam-like polish. 🙂

Catfight was from Aphrodite’s Friday Night Glitter Bombs Collection released in early September, and described as a sheer red polish, with a pinkish purple shimmer, and multiple different red, black, and white glitters. It’s gorgeous in its bottle – a deep red jelly glitter. Instead of wearing this alone, I decided to layer this polish between coats of Zoya Katherine, a deep aubergine jelly in the highest shine, glossy formula I have ever seen.

Aphrodite_Catfight_zoya

It looks slightly sheer in the bright sun, but in the shade, below, you can see the depth and high shine of this combo. I just LOVE how this is bordering on the edge of both vampy and glittery…  And did you see that slight purple shimmer?

Aphrodite_Catfight_zoyaShade

I believe Zoya Katherine is still available at Zoya.com as well as Nail Polish Canada and anywhere else Zoya is sold. Unfortunately Catfight may now be a HTF polish as it seems to be sold out on Aphrodite Lacquers’ Etsy shop, but keep an eye on her shop, Facebook page and on Twitter for the latest updates!

Do you love jellies as much as I do? 🙂
