Aphrodite Lacquers

Happy weekend! It is a gorgeous weekend here and I thought I would bring you a few more polish swatches from my favourite indie brand, Aphrodite Lacquers.

AL’s last collection, the stunning Romes & Jules collection, consisted of 10 gorgeous shades, with something for everyone. You can see some of the beauties in this post, and today I will show you three of the lighter polishes from the Romes & Jules collection!

The first colour, and my very favourite from the entire collection, is Inauspicious Stars, a milky white jelly base with white and pastel pink, purple and blue glitters, with tiny holo microglitters scattered throughout. Inauspicious Stars is like the “light” version of Violent Delights; a multi-colour glitter, only this time, in a pastel version. This was one of the polishes unveiled with the release of the second part of Romes & Jules, and it was as though Rebecca had read my mind: while wearing Violent Delights, I was thinking that a pale version of this would look amazing… it would be highly wearable, and allow us to wear glitter even when a crazy, bright glitter polish may not be appropriate. And the next thing you know… Inauspicious Stars was released!

Here are two coats over 1 coat of OPI Funny Bunny, my go-to white jelly:

Aphrodite_InauspiciousStarsIs that not lovely, and so demure?

The next white-based beauty is Capulets, another milky-white base with lots of bright colorful glitters, both matte and shiny. This polish is so colourful and fun, and contains the much-sought-after circle glitters along with square and hex glitters. I decided to layer 2 coats of Capulets over 1 coat of Funny Bunny:

Aphrodite_Capulets

The last polish I have for you today is Fortune’s Fool, another gorgeous milky base, this time in a light blue colour with lots of different blue and holo glitters and a hidden pale blue shimmer. I simply adore Aphrodite Lacquers’ hidden shimmer bases – they dance for you in certain light and are spectacular! You can see it in my picture, especially on my ring finger. Fortune’s Fool was a little sheerer than the other polishes, so I used three coats here, over base and without top coat. Look at that shine!

Aphrodite_Fortune's-Fool

Once again, these polishes reinforce my love of Aphrodite Lacquers and her indie polishes. Rebecca, its creator, can do no wrong!

Which Romes & Jules polish is your favourite so far?

One of my favourite recent indie collections is another one from Aphrodite Lacquers. Inspired by the Shakespearean star-crossed lovers, the Romes & Jules Collection is Valentine’s Day perfection personified. With names such as Montagues, Misadventure and Two Star-Crossed Lovers, and colours ranging from white to red and pink glitter, this selection of polishes is beautiful for the girly-girl and the vamp-polish-lover.

Today I bring you three polishes from this collection, and I couldn’t be more excited as Rebecca, Aphrodite’s amazing creator, recently added five more beauties to this collection!! And wait until you see these!

First up, Two Star Crossed Lovers, described as a light purple polish, with different purple and holo glitters, along with a hidden purplish-pinkish shimmer. Subtle, deliciously-squishy jelly and gorgeous!! If you don’t know, Aphrodite Lacquers has become known for their amazing jelly bases – the polishes look like layers of glitter are suspended in milky clouds on your fingers. Here are two coats of Two Star Crossed Lovers with base coat – before top coat!! This collection is incredibly shiny… have a look:

Aphrodite_TwoStarCrsdIs that not beautiful?

The next colour is Wherefore Art Thou – one of my favourite expressions from the Romeo and Juliet story, and a beautiful light pink polish, with tons of different pink and holo glitters and a hidden purplish-pinkish shimmer that dances in the light. Once again, two coats over base… no top coat:

Aphrodite_WhereforeArtThouSome of the glitter in Wherefore Art Thou is holographic and just stunning!

The last polish for today is the one I was most excited about, mainly because it has a milky white base, my favourite! Violent Delights is a white jelly polish, packed with white glitters of various sizes and all the different pink and purple glitters from this collection, and holo microglitters scattered throughout. It actually contains all of the different glitters used in this collection!! How cool is that?

This one is literally packed with glitter. Packed. I will try wearing it over my favourite white jelly, OPI’s Funny Bunny next time, to both use it more sparingly and to reduce the chances of glitter overload. Here are two coats of this beauty:

Aphrodite_ViolentDe

Click on the picture to enlarge it and see the detail, because it is like a jelly sandwich in a bottle. If you follow my blog, you know how I feel about jelly and squishy polishes. If you’re like me, you NEED this!!!

These beauties, along with the recent additions to the Romes & Jules collection, were just released on Aphrodite’s Etsy shop!

By now you probably know how I feel about my jelly polishes… especially jelly sandwiches! My last one even became my best post to date (check it out)!

For today’s post I used one of the new Selena Gomez for Nicole by OPI collection, Confetti Fun, a perfect rainbow glitterbomb, sandwiched between a base of Aphrodite Lacquers Fluerier, a pink jelly glitter, topped with my very favourite, OPI’s Funny Bunny!

NOPI Confetti Fun seems to be a near-dupe for OPI’s Rainbow Connection: it’s a rainbow-hued glitter with small and medium-sized pieces; however, what sets it apart from Rainbow Connection is its micro glitter and higher density of glitter. (Unfortunately I don’t have Rainbow to do a comparison post). I LOVE Confetti Fun and it is just perfect for jelly sandwiches!

Aphrodite Lacquers’ Fluerir was previously reviewed here and here, and Funny Bunny here and here.

Here are the bottles:

And here is the final result. (I had really filed my nails down to nubbins…)

Can you believe 2012 is almost over? This year was a big one for me… I started my new job, recently moved to our new home, started blogging and taking my polish and beauty obsession to a whole new level, and along with that, I met some amazing people in this community.

It’s been a little quiet on my blog lately, mainly due to my big move just before Christmas… I thought I would catch up, not only on a blog post or two, but also share some of my top polishes of the year (with links to the original posts).

Hope this is a fun read for you!

In no particular order, here is Aphrodite Lacquers’ It’s My Party topped with The Icing on the Cake. I immediately fell in love with this hot pink jelly (and its glittery topper), and can’t wait to wear this with a little tan!

Aphrodite_IcingOnTheCake

My most popular post, even garnering a shout-out from Suzi Weiss-Fishman, OPI’s Creative Director, on her twitter chat recently (!!), was the Monet jelly sandwich. This was created using OPI’s Funny Bunny with Shimmer Polish Linna, and it turned into one of my favourite manicures.

Shimmer_Linna_jelly_OPI_FunnyBunny2

Oh Zoya Ornate Collection, how I love thee! After patiently waiting for this gorgeous collection to arrive, I created my very first striping tape mani using Zoya Storm and Aurora:

Zoya_Ornate_nailart-2

Another day, another gorgeous Shimmer Polish! Karina, a deep vampy red jelly, is beautiful and glamorous and oh-so-sparkly!

Shimmer_Karina

I loved the sparkle of this mani: a-England’s Dorian Grey topped with Shimmer Polish Vanessa. Look at that sparkle!

Shimmer_Vanessa

And so you can see why I love Dorian Gray, look at this steely pewter:

AEngland_DorianGreyFlash

This year I also tried my very first Nubar polishes, and I fell in love. Look at shiny Nubar Espresso from the Simplicity Meets Elegance Collection:

Nubar_Espresso_Sun

From the same collection, here is Nubar Rouge, another gorgeous pink I fell in love with:

Nubar_Rouge_Sun

Up next, another of my most popular posts comes courtesy of OPI’s first foray into magnetics, from the OPI Skyfall Collection to commemorate 50 years of Bond films: OPI Magnetic Lacquer Is that Silva? I just love the holo magnetic!

OPI-Magnetic-IsThatSilva-

Blue is my favourite colour though I’ve often steered clear of it in my manicures. But Revlon Royal, especially combined with Aphrodite Lacquers’ Doorman, was something spectacular….

Aphrodite_Doorman

Who doesn’t love a sparkly linear holographic polish? The ladies at Glitter Gal have made holos their business, and let me tell you, Glitter Gal Wisteria does not disappoint!! I loved the subtlety of this light hue…

Glitter_Gal_Wisteria_Sun2

I am a fool for sparkles, and Aphrodite Lacquers Peacock Earrings was distracting. Here it is, layered over China Glaze’s Liquid Leather for optimum sparkle and shine:

Aphrodite_Peacock_Earrings

I think by now you know how much I adore jelly sandwiches. (And I should really do more of them!) Another Zoya collection that I was lusting after, Zoya Gloss, is a jelly-lover’s dream come true. Here is Zoya Frida layered with a relatively new indie, Kiss Your Elbow Polish’s A Drop in the Ocean:

Zoya-Frida Drop in Ocean Jelly
This list wouldn’t be complete without Picture Polish and their Mesh shade Tease, a glittery silvery-pink beauty that I received as part of their Blog Fest for 2012:

picturepolish_Tease_Shade

Next is a sparkly vampy black jelly courtesy of Aphrodite Lacquers, Nebula. Though I love vamps, I don’t always wear straight black polishes, unless, of course, they have a little something like Nebula does. Filled with aqua and silver glitters, Nebula has depth and sparkle:

Aphrodite_Nebula1

And last but not least, the one that started my love affair with Aphrodite Lacquers, Grapetini! I think it’s fair to say that AL is one of my favourite indies, having created a number of polishes that I wear again and again… and Grapetini, with its purple squishiness, was part of my very first AL order that was not meant to be. It has the unfortunate distinction of being my first polish to arrive smashed to pieces lol.

Aphrodite-Grapetini-3cts

And that, dear readers, is my first top… 16 list! It was meant to be a top-12 but there were simply too many that I adore. There are many more that I love and wanted to share, but in the spirit of keeping this a somewhat shortish blog post, not all the beauties could be included… Perhaps I will share another top-12 list soon.

Hope you enjoyed this post as much as I have enjoyed selecting my favourites. May the New Year bring you and your loved ones much joy and happiness, success and love.

In honour of Rebecca aka Aphrodite Lacquers’ birthday today, I bring you her entire Birthday Collection!

Rebecca recently released this Birthday Collection to commemorate her December birthday (rather than going the usual “holiday” route and releasing a green, red or gold holiday collection), made up of five party-ready polishes with perfect birthday-like names. 🙂

I first previewed this collection here, sharing Make a Wish, a delicate white jelly with silver glitter and a hidden silver shimmer. Here it is with two coats on the first two fingers, and one coat over white on the other two:

Aphrodite_Make_a_Wish

Next, possibly one of my favourite hot pink jellies, It’s My Party, a neon pink with silver shimmer. I was not ready for the gorgeousness of this jelly (and you know how I feel about jellies!!). It POPS in the perfect way, and I just loved the way it looked on my shorter nails.

Aphrodite_ItsMyPartyThat’s two coats of gorgeousness with base and top coat.

Not quite ready to part with It’s My Party (and I’ll cry if I want to 😉 ), I added some Icing to the tips!!

The Icing on the Cake, a clear top-coat-type polish, with multiple sizes of soft translucent white glitters and a soft silvery shimmer, is the perfect topping to any polish, buildable and providing just a hint of glitter. I LOVE The Icing on the Cake!!

Aphrodite_IcingOnTheCakeDoesn’t that look delicious together?

Then we have Never Too Old, a black matte polish with hidden silver and fuchsia shimmer, and a total surprise in this collection!

Aphrodite_NeverTooOldAt just two coats, it dries quickly to a gorgeous matte finish, no top coat needed.

But… if you did feel like wearing it shiny, a single coat of top coat brings the fuchsia and silver shimmer to life, giving this polish a 3D level of depth and almost holographic sparkle!

Here I added some gold shimmer to the tips, courtesy of Nicole by OPI’s Selena Gomez Collection, Kissed at Midnight.

Aphrodite_NeverTooOld_NOPI_Kissed

Here is a shot of the NOPI bottle. Gorgeous gold, isn’t it? (And quite reminiscent of Sephora by OPI’s Only Gold for Me, previously reviewed here.) Such a perfect New Year’s mani!

Aphrodite_NeverTooOld_NOPI_Kissed2Clearly I had too much fun with Never Too Old! (And I should point out the longevity of this polish: I wore the above combo for 8 days, with nary a chip. I posted a pic of the week-old mani on my Instagram.)

Last but not least, Wrappings, Ribbons, Bows, a deep purple filled with tiny purple glitters. Purple goodness!!! I wore it over a coat of China Glaze’s new Creative Fantasy, a deep purple jelly:

Aphrodite_WrappingsRibbonsBows(Please excuse my poor pinky – took a while to recover from the nasty tear…)

Wrappings, Ribbons, Bows’ purple glitters give the appearance of holo sparkles – what a gorgeous purple!!

Thank you, Aphrodite Lacquers, for this creative collection, and a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Rebecca today!!!!

I couldn’t help myself… I had some unposted swatches of some gorgeous polishes and figured I’d share them in a spam post. 🙂

First up, a-England’s Elaine. Stunning, regal, elegant. A perfect purple creme, with an incredible high shine – like the rest of this collection. I adore a-England.

AEngland-Elaine_Sun

Elaine became the base for this stunning glitter, from Aphrodite Lacquers’ Friday Night Glitter Bombs Collection (previously reviewed here, here ,here, and here), Velvet Rope.

Aphrodite_VelvetRope_AE_Elaine

Isn’t this beautiful? Here is one more photo as the sun was setting:

Aphrodite_VelvetRope_AE_ElaineShade

One of the most gorgeous OPIs (in my humble opinion) from the Muppets collection was Wocka Wocka, a rich, deep, cool-hued red with a multi-chromatic shimmer. I wish I wore this colour more often because I adore it.

OPI_WockaWocka

Wocka Wocka became the base for another Aphrodite Lacquers Glitter Bomb:  Catfight, just reviewed yesterday in a jelly sandwich. 🙂

Aphrodite_Catfight_OPIWockaWocka

Finally, one of my summery go-to colours from OPI, Miami Beet, a beautiful deep berry creme, became the base for Aphrodite’s Pre-Party, a sheer pink polish base with color changing shimmer that goes from pink to coppery gold, and multiple different pink, black, and white glitters.

Aphrodite_PreParty_OPIMiamiBeet

Here is one of it in the shade… I love the shimmer reflecting off this.

Most of these OPI colours are still available at fine salons, and Aphrodite Lacquers can be found on Aphrodite’s Etsy shop.  And don’t forget to follow Aphrodite Lacquers on Facebook and Twitter for the latest news!
