Dior Glowing Gardens

“After women, flowers are the most divine creations,” said Monsieur Dior. Mr. Dior never ceased to reconstruct the poetry and magic of the original garden of Granville in his creations. Faithful to the love of Christian Dior for blossoming gardens, Peter Philips, Creative & Image Director for Dior Makeup, has created a ‘glow manifesto’ for the Dior Spring look. Elements of Mr. Dior’s magical Granville Garden flourish in this collection designed to create both graphic and natural looks that are at once radiant, luminous and bright. Floral and neutral shades blossom together in a fresh colour palette, balanced with deeper tones.

Dior Glowing Gardens Spring 2016

Peter Philips created three incarnations of Glowing Gardens palettes including two shades of 5-Couleurs, two shades of Diorskin Nude Air and one flattering shade of Diorblush, each imprinted with a floral pattern inspired by the beautiful gardens of Christian Dior’s childhood home in Granville. He also designed the brand-new Diorshow Colour & Contour eye duos, a two-sided pencil with a luminous, long-wearing eyeshadow on one end and an easy-glide eyeliner on the other.

Dior 5-Couleurs Glowing Gardens Eyeshadow Palettes

The two harmonies of 5-Couleurs Glowing Gardens palettes are:

Rose Garden #451 (top right in photo below) features shades of lilac, soft pink, vibrant yellow & crisp green
Blue Garden #031 (bottom left) features shades of peach, sky blue, blue iris and subtle Dior grey. $70 Cdn each.

I am absolutely blown away by the bright-yet-subdued shades selected for this collection, making them highly versatile and wearable. I absolutely LOVE the combo of green and yellow against the brown in Rose Garden, while I love the soft grey, peach and white of Blue Garden. And as if that were not enough, the Glowing Gardens motif is breathtaking. Zoom in for the stunning detail!

Dior Glowing Gardens 5 Couleurs

Diorshow Colour & Contour Eyeshadow & Eyeline Duo

This ingenious eyeshadow and liner duo creates an instant eye makeover in a few simple movements, for a quick contrasting eye look with a soft colour glow underlined by a graphic stroke. On one side a luminous silky and long-wearing eye shadow swaths the eyes in colour, while on the other side, an easy glide, pigment-rich long-wearing eyeliner sets the look. Available in shades of lilac, peach and flattering taupe, $40 Cdn each.

Diorskin Nude Air Glowing Gardens Illuminating Powder

Introducing two shades of Diorskin Nude Air Invisible compact powders, enhance with subtle shimmer for Spring 2016 to create two iridescent beige and rosy nude highlighters. The powders boast a weightless formula with sweet orange extract, vitamins and minerals to support a toned complexion. Glowing Pink #001 (below right), Glowing Nude #002 (below left), $64 Cdn each.

Glowing Pink has a subtle duochrome that makes it extremely wearable for a soft finish, while Glowing Nude provides a soft bronze highlight. The powders are so softly milled and apply like butter.

Diorskin Nude Air Glowing Gardens

Just look at this INTRICATE DETAIL! I absolutely LOVE the floral motif under the ‘nude’ insignia. These Illuminating Powders are almost too gorgeous to use:

Dior Vernis Glowing Gardens Spring 2016 Shades

Two new shades of Dior’s bestselling gel-like nail lacquer enriched with organic silicon for extra-long wear and formulated without toluene, formaldehyde, phthalates or camphor. Bluette #301 and Lilac #491, $31 Cdn each.

Dior Glowing Gardens Dior Vernis

I knew right when I saw Bluette and Lilac that I wanted to do a gradient with them… but first, a nude and Lilac mani was needed. So I selected Dior Vernis in Lily (121) as my ivory base and created this gradient mani.

Dior Addict Lip Glow Colour Reviver Balm

Dior Addict Lip Glow — the Dior Backstage must-have to enhance lips and bring out their natural colour. Formulated with Dior’s Colour Reviver Technology, SPF 10 and enriched with Wild Mango and Luffa Cylindrica to protect and moisturize. Wear alone as a lip balm or primer, or team with Dior lipstick or gloss for even more radiant results! Two permanent shades: Pink #001 or Coral #004, and a limited edition Spring shade: Lilac #005, $40 Cdn each.

I don’t even have words for my Lip Glow addiction. It’s an incredible balm or nude finisher if you don’t want to bother with lip products… and as the amazing Ricky Wilson, Dior Celebrity makeup artist extraordinaire, taught me, a softly blended pinkish liner like Dior’s Swan topped by Lip Glow results in the perfect rosy pout!

And now it’s here in limited edition Lilac, with a Lip Glow liner to boot. Run — don’t walk — to your nearest Dior counters!!

Dior Glowing Gardens Spring 2016 Collection is Limited Edition, and is now available at Dior Counters nationwide, including at The Bay.com, Sephora and Holt Renfrew.

On the bridge of an ocean liner blows the wind of liberty. Cruise elegance reigns. Dior renews ties with the world of the great transatlantic crossings, inspired by the travel spirits of its first Resort and Spring line in 1948. Created by Tyen, the 2014 Summer Look unveils a cruise make-up collection: a palette of navy blue, primary red and sandy beige. The skin wears the radiance of the sun and an outdoors glow. Eyes take to the seas in ultramarine blue, while lips light up in red, and nails wear the sailor’s strips.

This season, chic is taking a breath of maritime air.

It is the first step in the summer make-up routine: apply Diorskin Nude Tan Prime & Bronze to cleansed and moisturized skin for instant beauty and radiance. Apply every day for a week for a lasting tan.

Incredibly easy to apply for a chic and playful manicure.

Dior_Transat_Sailor_pk

Available in three limited edition shades, Vernis Transat Manicure will impress even the harshest beauty critics.

Let’s start with Sailor (700)! Blue is my absolute favourite colour, and Sailor was immediately a stand-out. As I’ve said before, I don’t always wear blue nail polish (as much as I adore the colour), simply because I feel that some shades can look… well, immature. No such worries here! Sailor is a beautiful royal blue, just deep enough to be sexy and classic, and just bright enough to draw compliments from strangers. Seriously, I received more compliments about my manicure than I can remember while shopping and lunching one day, with Sailor on!

Sailor is a crelly (cream-jelly) formula that leans slightly more jelly. Possessing the tiniest hint of silver shimmer (like the other two shades), Sailor dries quickly to a mirror-like shine, making top coat virtually unnecessary. Its jelly formula can dry with a hint of shrinkage, so I do recommend wrapping the tips of your nails as you paint to ensure coverage dries right to the tips. And there was absolutely no staining upon removal. Below, two coats of Sailor over Dior Base Coat Abricot:

You can see the gorgeous delicate silver shimmer in the sun, below (click pic for full size):

Dior_Vernis_Transat_Sailor_sn

A beautiful bright red, Captain (750) leans slightly warm without being overtly orange. It is truly a vivid, spectacular red possessing the same hidden silver shimmer as Sailor. Also a crelly formula, it applies flawlessly and covers perfectly even on its first coat. Drying to a stunning high shine like Sailor, it too, can skip top coat. Here are two coats over Dior’s Base Coat:

Dior_Vernis_Transat_Captain

Rounding out a trio of sublime polishes, the neutral in this collection is the sandy greige Yacht (210). A very neutral beige, I wish I had at least two backups of this beauty, because it is that deserving. I have worn this polish multiple times already and am starting to worry about the wear in my bottle! Another Dior Vernis, another spectacular formula, this time in a gorgeous creme. Yacht has the same hidden silver shimmer as Captain and Sailor, though it is almost invisible in this nude. Below, two coats over Dior’s Base Coat:

Dior_Vernis_Transat_Yacht

Dior Vernis Transat Manicure sets in Yacht, Sailor and Captain ($31 Cdn each) are available now in limited release (since May 1, 2014) at Dior counters everywhere. I heard that Sailor quantities were running low at some Dior counters, so call ahead!

In 1963, Dior created an exceptionally popular treatment: Crème Abricot. This incredibly rich formula was capable of making nails stronger and encouraging their growth through a burst of nutrition and regeneration. Creators of the Couture manicure believed that beautiful nails were the essential finishing touch to a look.

Over the years, the Crème Abricot design has become iconic: its little round pot and beaded border is reminiscent of a neo-classical pillbox. A desirable and portable object to slip into your handbag for any occasion. The success of this star formula has never faltered and 50 years later it remains a must-have product.

Today, Crème Abricot is part of a complete manicure range, starting with Huile Abricot, an extremely refined treatment oil for daily use.

Dior_HuileApricot_Serum

A deeply nourishing and hydrating treatment for cuticles, it also helps strengthen nails:

Its unique formula protects and hardens keratin within the nails through a synergy of active oils. Firstly, argan oil, concentrated in essential fatty acids and anti-oxidant, vitamin E; camellia oil, reputed for its protective properties; and finally, apricot oil, rich in vitamins and minerals, indispensable for strong nails.

I like to keep Huile Abricot in my purse for convenience (love the simple tube and applicator!) – which was especially nice through our never-ending winter this year, or apply a drop to each nail before bed… If you follow my blog, you’ll know how much I swear by regular massaging of cuticles with some cuticle oil. Massaging your cuticles before bed really helps absorb the nutritive oil, and encourages nail growth, and is so easy to do! If you just do one thing to take care of your nails, this would be an amazing product to keep on your nightstand or in your purse for daily use.

DiorVernis_essentials

Going hand-in-hand with the amazing Crème Abricot or Huile Abricot is Dior’s Base Coat Abricot. A nourishing, smoothing and hardening base coat, it transforms the surface of the nail, preparing it for nail polish application and long lasting wear. With an ever-so-subtle beige tint in the bottle, it applies clear, but leaves behind a clean and shiny finish on nails – the perfect unpolished manicure! The first time I applied Base Coat Abricot, I actually skipped the polish, it looked so clean and well… pretty!

Dior_Base_Abricot

Finishing up the Dior manicure is Dior Gel Coat, a gel-finish top coat with an extremely high-gloss finish to wrap and seal the polish. Smoothed over with a brilliant lacquered effect, Dior Gel Coat makes nails appear stronger and thicker with its gel finish, yet dries quickly. While not an actual quick-dry top coat, it dries to the touch within five or so minutes – that’s quick drying to me!   And when you are ready to change colours, Dior’s Gel Coat is simple to take off: just use regular nail polish remover – no pain, no scrubbing.

Finally, a little bit of luxe in a small bottle: Dissolvant Abricot, The Treatment Remover:

Described as an acetone-free solution ensures fast and efficient nail polish removal with care for your nails. Rich in treatment ingredients known to nourish, hydrate and strengthen, it instantly revives whiteness and shine.

For Spring 2014, Dior launched the very Limited Edition Trianon Collection, a selection of pastels for the eyes with blushed cheeks and pops of colour on the lips. See the entire range of this special collection here!

Today I present to you some of my favourites from this pretty collection!

Let’s start with Diorblush Trianon Edition in Corail Bagatelle (763) – a beautiful and universally flattering coral shade embossed with a beautiful vintage bow motif in Dior’s signature mirrored case with its own velour pouch.  I think this is one of my favourite blush shades ever! Truly suitable to almost any skin tone, this pinky-coral shade applies softly to start, yet is highly buildable to your desired level of blush. There is a hint of fine shimmer in this blush that translates to a glowing, but not sparkly, finish on the skin.

Dior’s 5 Couleurs Eye Shadow Palette in Pastel Fontanges (234) includes a sugared-almond pink, baby blue/teal, golden pale yellow, a chocolate brown, and a soft, warm grey. Adorned with the emblematic bow, a beaded ribbon and the Dior signature, the spring, limited edition of the 5 Couleur palette takes a delightful dive into the world of the Petit Trianon. This gorgeous retro palette with two applicators and in a signature Dior velour pouch, is almost too pretty to use, no?

Dior_Spring2014_5Couleurs_Trianon

Below, swatches of 5 Couleurs shimmering shades, starting with the warm grey (top left in the palette and going clockwise) from left to right: Warm grey, baby teal, almond pink, chocolate, golden pale yellow. Most of this palette is shimmering in very soft pastel shades, with the chocolate being the darkest and most matte, and the centre golden highlight shade possessing the most obvious sparkle. Angelic, girly, and so pretty!

To amp up the lips against the soft eyes presented in Dior Trianon, Dior presents Rouge Dior in a bright yet pastel coral, Rose Crinoline and in pure fuchsia, Allégresse.

and Rouge Dior in Allégresse, a sexy, bold but creme, fuchsia:

The concentrated shine of Dior Addict Gloss is presented in shades of Pétillante peach and Exquise pink. Both shades are complementary to the two limited edition Trianon Rouge Dior.

The limited release Dior Vernis Trianon nail lacquer shades, inspired by the Trianon garden, included seasonal floral hues of cornflower in Porcelaine, soft peach of Bouquet, and the pure fuchsia of Bloom.

Dior_Spring2014_DiorVernis

A play on texture inspired by the porcelain and china of the 18th century, the matte topper Perlé provided the finishing effect! If you follow me, you know how much fun I had with these shades by using them in this abstract mani:

Dior_Vernis S14 Trianon Abstract Nailart2

With this collection, Dior introduced a new variation of its iconic Lip Glow in a Trianon-exclusive shade: Coral. Sheer, ultra-moisturizing, and a fantastic base for Dior Addict or Rouge Dior, I loved combining it with simply a hint of Dior Addict in Pétillante.

As some of you who follow my social media streams may know, I’ve been a little quiet lately… unfortunately I lost my father a few days ago. The only positive in his passing is that he did not suffer long; he was diagnosed with a very aggressive and advanced cancer that would have destroyed his insides. It is a rotten disease that needs a cure; a cure that must, in our advanced society, surely be forthcoming. I also want to thank you for the many wishes and condolences you have sent our way…

Moving on to happier things, I wanted to introduce you to the beautiful Bella from Shimmer Polish! I recently reached out to Cindy to create a custom Shimmer… something vampy but different from her other vamps that I love. She came up with this beauty, a black jelly base with tons of burgundy glitter, hints of silver, and reflections of gold and red in sunlight. I asked Cindy to name it after my beautiful Doberman-mix Bella.

Bella’s black jelly base is quite sheer, so I layered it over the gorgeous crelly Dior Vernis Nuit 1947 to maintain the jelly qualities I so love. I used only one coat of the Dior, and added two thin coats of Shimmer Polish Bella, topped with two coats of top coat:

Happy Friday!

I have had a few lovely days of vacation, just hanging out at home (I LOVE to cuddle up, be warm at home when it’s cold out), and really wanted to do something fun on my nails before heading back to work… My nail art started off with some stamping, and that did not go so well, so I changed gears and decided to try something new on my nails. I think I needed a palette cleanser because I’ve been craving a nice, white polish base, so I started with two coats of Butter LONDON’s gorgeous crisp white Cotton Buds.

ButterLondon_CottonBuds base

One of my favourite types of art is abstract – the more colourful the lines, the better. I’ve also had my eye on the recent watercolour nail art trend, so beautiful and bright… What finally pushed me to give abstract nail art a try was The Nail Polish Challenge’s gorgeous “inspired by art work” manicure that I spotted on Instagram. My hope was that it would turn out even almost as nice as hers!

I knew the perfect polishes to try this with would be Dior’s new Trianon Spring 2014 colours.

Dior_Spring2014_DiorVernis

Once my white base was completely dry, I started brushing on little wisps of colour with a nearly-dry brush (I wiped the brush on the bottle neck until there was almost no polish left), starting with Porcelaine, the pale blue. In order, I then added strokes of Bouquet, Bloom, and finished up with a few dabs of the iridescent Perlé (note that Perlé actually provides a matte finish but I applied top coat which made it shinier). Et voila!

Dior_Vernis S14 Trianon Abstract Nailart3

You can see the little iridescent areas in the macro shot (click to see full size image):

Dior_Vernis S14 Trianon Abstract Nailart

So simple, but I was blown away. Dior’s Trianon colours are perfect over this white ‘canvas’ and I could not be more happy with my first go at this!

Dior_Vernis S14 Trianon Abstract Nailart2

I am almost inspired to paint this on a real canvas!

These gorgeous Dior Vernis shades will be released shortly, on January 15th! For more information (no shipping available to Canada), head to Dior.com or shop online at thebay.com!
