Shimmering lights of silvery pink and brocade prune: these two shades propel nail lacquers into a new dimension, for a half-shadow, half-light aesthetic that is always stylish.

As the shades in Dior’s Fall 2013 campaign, Mystic Metallics, reflect the mysterious colours of the galaxy, the three new shades of Dior Vernis truly play on this half-shadow and half-light dance. From the shadowy blue of Dior’s Mystic Magnetic polish (see it here) to the soft incandescence of Destin (382) and the magical depth of Galaxie (992), you will be easily transported to the stars.

Dior_Vernis

Dior Vernis Destin is described as a silvery pink, which is how it truly appears in the bottle (see above), but once applied, ranges from a pink-tinted greige to a neutral taupe with a silvery ribbon of shimmer. It is the perfect neutral, dare I say, and would be flattering for most skintones. Application and formula were a dream. The Dior Vernis brush is slightly rounded, making it easy to use and applying just the right amount of polish. Destin dried to a beautiful high shine, in great time. I used two coats over base coat for these photos.

Behold the cool sheen of Destin in the shade:

Dior Vernis Galaxie, a brocade prune with a blue-red shimmer, is the perfect counterpart to Destin… deep, mysterious, and also extremely flattering. The barely-there shimmer is most noticeable in direct light, otherwise lending depth to the polish, much like the stars do for the galaxy. The formula was even dreamier than Destin’s – it was almost a one-coater with its perfect coverage. I used two coats over base coat.

Be mesmerized by Galaxie’s depth in the shade:

Both shades would categorize as “office-appropriate,” and with formulas like these, I would venture to say they are must-haves.

Although it’s not the official start of fall, today marks the start of a new school year and brings with it… well, the unofficial end to summer. It seems like this summer barely arrived and it’s already gone, but at the same time, I’m excited for fall’s fashions and beauty arrivals!

Today I bring you a preview of Dior’s gorgeous Mystic Metallics collection for Fall 2013!

Inspired by a lucky star that Monsieur Dior stepped on one evening in April 1946 that led to his opening his own House the following day, the Mystic Metallics reflect like this star in the Dior galaxy. The radiance of a stone, the magic of iridescence, and the intensity of a metallic hue. Eyes are dressed in shadow and light, whilst nails defy every colour in the spectrum. Prepare to be transcended by the mysterious colours of the galaxy in Dior’s fall collection.

The 5 Couleurs Mystic Metallics eyeshadow palette shimmers with metallic shades and reflections in blue-greens and browns in the Bonne Étoile set, aubergines and gold in the Constellation palette.  Starting with the luxurious case with a hidden CD emblem, which comes with its own protective sleeve, the 5 Couleurs set is the epitome of Christian Dior’s lucky charm. Each eyeshadow colour is embossed with a gorgeous star motif. The Bonne Étoile palette is Limited Edition and will not be offered at Sephora ($61 Cdn).

The Diorshow Fusion Mono eyeshadows  ($31 each) recreate the depth and contrast of a catwalk look. an unprecedented, rounded, gel-mousse texture weightlessly illuminates the eye with multi-faceted, long-lasting colour. Eyes dress up in the dazzle of black diamonds, of amber or even the moon. Eight shades with intense shimmer and a powerful emotional charge.

Use two application techniques for two different looks:

Soft Fusion: applied with fingertips, the eyeshadow blends into the skin to create a light veil of colour and a subtly shimmering result.
Bold Fusion: applied using the smudging applicator that is included in each Fusion Mono shadow, the finish is intensified to reveal pure and extreme colour.
Tip from the pros: lightly wet the shadow for an extreme metallic effect with a dramatic lamé finish.

Here are four of the eight Fusion Mono shadows:

Dior has created four new shades of Dior Addict Extreme lipcolour to go with the Mystic Metallics collection. From poetic rosewood to dramatic purple, colour is bewitching.

In harmony with the Dior Addict Extreme lipstick shades, the four new Dior Addict Gloss references capture light and accessorize the lips. Perfectly coordinated to be worn over Dior Addict Extreme or on their own.

See two of each of the Dior Addict shades here:

Rounding out the collection are the Dior Vernis Mystic Magnetics ($27 Cdn and LE, not available at Sephora) in a shadowy blue lacquer, and Dior Vernis ($25 Cdn) in Destin (382) a silvery pink, and Galaxie (992), a brocade prune. (See Destin and Galaxie above.)

Finally, Diorshow Blackout mascara will be released in its new tube and with a new XL brush to finish the intense and mysterious collection ($31 Cdn).

I had a chance to test Dior Addict Extreme in Gri-Gri (546), a nude pink creme. The formula is rich and applies with buttery softness, finishing in a soft shine. Gri-Gri is a perfect nude lip to contrast the rich, metallic shadows of this collection.

This shade is a Limited Edition and will not be available at Sephora ($32 Cdn).

Dior_AddictExtreme_546_GriGri

The perfect complement to Gri-Gri is Dior Addict Gloss in Charm (364). An ultra-high shine gloss with a hint of the same nude rosy colour above, it applies with a small brush applicator which I LOVE and love to use. Here is Charm worn over Gri-Gri:

This shade is also Limited Edition and will not be available at Sephora ($31 Cdn).

Even with my tan, I found the nude shades to be highly wearable and flattering. Whether going for a smoky eye/nude lip look or an overall soft look, both these shades will be added to my go-to arsenal!

This collection is available now at Dior counters. For more information, head to Dior.com!

Will you be picking up any of the Mystic Metallics this fall?

Yesterday I showed you a couple of the new Colour Clash polishes, released for fall 2013 from Butter LONDON. Today I bring you a cute skittle mani featuring three of their bright colours!

You’ve already seen the beautiful crisp Cotton Buds, and look how gorgeous it looks with Pimms and Silly Billy!!

ButterLONDON_ColourClash-skittlesPimms is a term for a “gin-based tradition at its finest,” and is desribed as being a “refreshing beverage that is almost as popular as English tea.” A gorgeous opaque, sun‑flower yellow cream shade, Pimms is a crelly (cream jelly) polish that applies easily and dries to a gorgeous shine. On my middle finger I blended it lightly with Cotton Buds to lighten and brighten it, and on my ring finger: 2 coats alone.

Silly Billy is an opaque bright orange orange crème, and is a term for a popular clown “at fairs in Britain, and a fab nickname for anyone named William.” Another crelly-type polish, this was another dream to apply! I used two coats on my ring finger above on its own, and as you can see, it dried to a high finish.

I am totally obsessed with the Colour Clash collection and… consider me converted! I am in love with Butter LONDON lacquers.

A surprising twist for a fall launch, Butter LONDON has launched the Colour Clash collection for Fall 2013, consisting of five bright shades and a gorgeous, opaque white. You may have expected these to be summer shades, but Butter LONDON dared to live on the edge, fully expecting them to be paired with the muted shades of fall!

Today I have for you two of my favourites of this collection – let’s start with the crisp, clean beauty of Cotton Buds! A pure, opaque white creme, Cotton Buds was a dream to apply and wear. If you love white polish (I adore white polish!), you know what a pain it can sometimes be to apply, including streaking. Cotton Buds was incredible; applying with buttery, creamy ease, and drying to a super high shine. I think I wore Cotton Buds for five days before finally changing it, but all I had in that time to indicate wear was a tiny chip on one nail. Talk about endurance!

And here is the gorgeous shade at two coats:

ButterLondon_CottonBudsLook at that amazing shine!

Changing gears to a bright hot pink, described as a nearly-neon pink cream, Cake Hole is a beauty. Venturing into coral territory, Cake Hole is hot, hot, hot and just as dreamy to apply as Cotton Buds. It has a slight jelly consistency, making it a touch less opaque than Cotton Buds, yet it applies evenly and dries quickly. I had to use top coat to bring out the shine in Cake Hole as it did not dry to quite the high shine as the above polish. Here it is at two easy coats with top coat:

ButterLondon_CakeHoleThis was my first experience with Butter LONDON’s lacquers, and now I finally realize what the fuss is about. The lacquers are incredible from application to finish to wear! Even after days of wear, the polish held up and refused to fade. I noticed the longevity when removing the polish – it is definitely built for endurance.
