Dior recently added a new generation of skincare, Dior Hydra LIFE to its skincare regimen. The collection includes nine new products that hydrate the skin using gentle, effective, natural-derived ingredients, in bright and fresh packaging.

I had a chance to try out four Hydra LIFE products consistently, and have my review for you below, after the Collection List!

In creating Hydra LIFE, Dior is also the first brand to partner with the Human Microbiome Project, a worldwide collaborative project based on the research of Skin Flora Genes, wherein research has discovered that rebalancing and preserving the skin flora is essential in maintaining a healthy glowing complexion, while an unbalanced skin flora leads to dehydration, redness and imperfections.

Another added bonus about Dior’s Hydra LIFE? The line features 90% natural non-toxic ingredients and is free from silicones, parabens, petrochemicals and allergens. Its lightweight glass packaging and streamlined outer carton made with natural inks and produced without cellophane reduces the line’s impact on the environment by 30%.

The Collection:

Dior Hydra LIFE Fresh Hydration Sorbet Creme
Hydrates and nourishes the skin with a Mallow and Harberlea flower leaves mixture in a fresh gel-creme.

Dior Hydra LIFE Deep Hydration Sorbet Water Essence
Also including Mallow and Harberlea leaves, this 3-in-1 essence offers ultra-concentrated moisturization, skin refining and toning for the skin.

My Review:

I was sent four items for review from Dior: The Hydra LIFE Oil to Milk Makeup Removing Cleanser, Pro-Youth Sorbet Eye Creme, Fresh Hydration Sorbet Creme, and Extra Plump Smooth Balm Mask. Rather than just try them a few times, I put the line through the wringer, and have been using them faithfully as part of my regular skincare regimen for the past 6-8 weeks.

Dior Hydra LIFE bottles

Let me just start with the packaging and initial thoughts on the line… Wow. I absolutely LOVED the packaging and jars Dior used for this line, as it really seems to suit the airy, fresh image I feel this line has. The jars are gorgeously minimalistic, matte (for the masks) or shiny (cremes), and just look decadent once opened! All the items I tested had a very light, deliciously subtle scent, not at all overpowering like some skincare lines, which I know is music to the ears of some of my more sensitive readers. And the texture… also very decadent — more on that below.

Those who know me well know that I love my cleansing oils (I really do!), and was super-excited to try the new Hydra LIFE Oil to Milk Makeup Removing Cleanser. I use my Dior Instant Gentle Cleansing Oil all the time, and was eager to see how the new Hydra LIFE Oil to Milk Cleanser compared. As promised, once water is added, this oil becomes a creamy emulsion that is then massaged over the face and rinsed with lukewarm water. Personally, I prefer to use a facial cleansing cloth to massage off the cleansing oil, which removes my makeup. I did find that the Oil to Milk Cleanser had a bit of a harder time with my mascara, but removed all other makeup easily. And it leaves the skin supple and moist.

Eye creams are absolute must-haves to me and Hydra LIFE’s Pro-Youth Sorbet Eye Creme was a nice surprise for me. This eye cream promises to reduce puffiness and visibly lighten dark circles, and despite usually favouring richer eye creams, I was not disappointed. A delicious sorbet (gel-cream) texture, it spreads over the delicate eye area gently with a cooling feeling, absorbs very quickly and makes a perfect base for makeup (no creasing of makeup overtop). I will say that it is a very light texture, and thus, may not be moisturizing or rich enough for some, but I find it perfect for the warm, humid summer months. The only negative comment I have about the Hydra LIFE packaging is that with the small container, it does get a little difficult to get the cream out from the sides of the jar once the amount dwindles…

My favourite of the four products had to be the Hydra LIFE Fresh Hydration Sorbet Creme! With the same sorbet, gel-cream cooling texture as the Sorbet Eye Creme, this light moisturizer absorbs quickly enough to apply makeup right overtop. I found it refreshing, hydrating with a delicious texture. I love its lightness for summer, and absolutely love the subtle scent! I will definitely continue using this Sorbet Creme for the remainder of the summer!

Dior Hydra LIFE

My last product to test was the Hydra LIFE Extra Plump Smooth Balm Mask. What I loved about the mask was the quick, 3-minute application and super-quick results! Intensely hydrating and nourishing, this mask promises to leave skin instantly soft, while becoming plumper and more comfortable day after day. And nourishing it was! A great quick treat, suitable even for daily use, I loved applying this Mask and and being able to remove it almost immediately. I’m much more used to wearing masks for 10-20 minutes, which I still love to do as a relaxing treatment, however, it’s so nice to be able to garner similar results without a time commitment especially when we’re in a hurry. I will definitely be trying the other two Hydra LIFE masks after this and recommend you do the same!

The Dior Hydra LIFE skincare line is now available at Dior Counters nationwide, including at TheBay.com, Sephora and Holt Renfrew.

Today I learned that it has been two whole years since the launch of the last Urban Decay Naked Palette — the beautiful Naked Smoky filled with sultry shadows to create that gorgeous smoky eye. Who knew!

UD changed all that today with the news that they have launched a fifth Urban Decay Naked palette, the Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette! “I’ve never been able to say this about a Naked palette, but this is the first Naked palette that satisfies both my need for neutrals and my craving for rich, sexy color,” UD founder Wende Zomnir told Allure. While UD calls it an “auburn-inspired, warm, steamy, sultry set of colors,” Glamour calls it ‘a trend lover’s late-summer dream. Naked Heat is filled with twelve new shadows that range from a pink-toned nude to coppery brown, with shades of brick in between. Each shade mimics a hot night on the beach and the changing leaves in autumn—and the colours fall right in line with the rusty reds and maroons that have been popping up on celebrities and Insta feeds. Subtle and sexy…’

Urban Decay Naked Heat

The 12 shades are:

  • Ounce: a satin champagne
  • Chaser: a nude clay
  • Sauced: a warm taupe
  • Low Blow: a toasted almond
  • Lumbre: a burnt rose gold
  • He Devil: a spicy paprika
  • Dirty Talk: a fiery gold
  • Scorched: a shimmering rust
  • Cayenne: a baked brick
  • En Fuego: a charred red
  • Ashes: a deep oxblood
  • Ember: a blackened copper

And not only is Urban Decay launching this scorching hot summer palette, they are launching a limited-edition mini Heat collection, too. The collection will include three new Vice Lipsticks: Fuel (a warm, peachy nude), Heat (a metallic rust), and Scorched (a shimmering copper), as well as two new 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils: Alkaline (a deep burgundy) and Torch (a burnt cayenne).

The UD Naked Heat Palette will be available for an exclusive pre-sale on urbandecay.com for UD Beauty Junkies, and officially launch on June 30th! It will be available on sephora.com on July 10th, and in-stores on July 13th!

With the incredible and cult-like recent success of similar warm-toned, rusty palettes like Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette and the Natasha Denona Sunset Eyeshadow Palette, both of which sold out in the blink of an eye, you must be feeling the heat. (I know I am!) Are you lining up to get your hands on this beauty?

When you think of Urban Decay, you probably think of their incredible Naked Palettes, eyeshadow palettes that have become synonymous with “makeup must-have.” And imagine if one of the world’s coolest girls co-created a palette of her very own with this super-cool brand… Then you would have the Limited Edition UD | Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette, a collaboration collection of 15 shadows!

UD Gwen Stefani Shadow palette

A true creative partnership and design collaboration, and Urban Decay’s very first celeb-collab, Gwen spent countless hours chatting makeup with UD and was involved in every aspect of this palette, from the case to the final shades. Gwen wanted to create a palette of colours that she had always wished to have in her collection, finally settling on a large range of neutrals and a few jewel tones for pop… 12 of which are brand-new shades while three are from the UD shadow collection, making this Ms. Stefani’s very own go-to kit to achieve her own most iconic looks!

UD Gwen Stefani Shadow palette1

Just look at this huge variety of neutral shadows — and in true Stefani style, Gwen threw in a metallic cool pink and metallic royal blue for the rockstar babe in you!

The 15 shades, many named after Gwen’s songs, are: Blonde – a pale beige w/pink iridescent shift, Bathwater – a pale beige w/gold pearl, Skimp – a pale nude satin, Steady – a medium rose w/metallic gold shift, Punk – a reddish brown matte, Baby – a beautiful cool metallic rose, Anaheim – a light taupe-brown matte, Stark – a nude-pink matte, Zone – a medium brown matte, Serious – a perfect smoky gray w/iridescent floating pearl, Pop – a pale coral w/iridescent sparkle, Harajuku – the metallic blue-pink w/iridescent micro-shimmer to throw you off the nudes you thought you were getting, Danger – a deep metallic royal blue w/blue micro-sparkle, 1987 – a bright metallic yellow-gold, and finally, Blackout – the blackest black matte must-have for every rockstar’s palette!

Below are the top two rows of the palette (unfortunately the lighting blended Stark into Anaheim three shades from the right — you can see it toward the lower right of the photo):

UD Gwen Stefani Shadow swatch

And finally all 15 of the gorgeous shadows:

UD Gwen Stefani Shadow swatch all

I absolutely LOVE the metallic royal blue – bright but muted enough to be highly wearable. And that gold is so Gwen… subtle but buildable gold. Love!

All of these shadows were finely milled and super-pigmented, even the nudes. Application was silky and buttery, and I love that they can be built up very easily. Fallout was minimal, as I’ve come to expect from UD – unless you’re caking on your eyeshadow, you should not expect flaking! Even Serious and Blackout, the most pigmented of the mattes, will stay put and apply incredibly well – go crazy, Baby!

The only note I will make is that the three nude metallic shades are quite soft, and require only gentle pressure when swiping it with my shadow brush, otherwise you could get a bit of fallout on the shadow pan itself. And who wants to lose that much shadow! 😉

Here is another photo of the palette in artificial light:

UD Gwen Stefani Shadow palette artif

Another fun fact: Gwen and UD cofounder Wende first met back in the early days of both No Doubt and UD – UD was created right around the same time that Gwen hit the music scene.

And when UD says Gwen collaborated with us on every detail of this palette, we mean it—right down to the case, which was inspired by her love of black-and-white graphic prints and antique gold accents. She also handpicked most of the shade names, which were based on her songs. There’s even a nod to the No Doubt song “Magic’s in the Makeup” on the palette’s huge mirror. How cool is that? 🙂
