Launched a few weeks ago in July, OPI’s partnership with Ford saw the introduction of six new limited edition nail lacquers to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ford Mustang!

Including both creme and shimmery hues, the collection has aptly-named shades from Race Red to Angel with a Leadfoot, all with gorgeous, high shine finishes. Believe me when I say that you might need a few (or all) of these!

Race Red, the focal point of the collection, is described as a “hot pepper red,” though I find it to be more of an orange-leaning red and less of a true red. No matter, as I love red polish and found Race Red’s orange base helped it stand out. Here, 2 easy, jelly-like coats, no top coat. Love this shine!

OPI_Ford_Race_Red

Girls Love Ponies is described as a grown-up hot pink, and I absolutely love it! Incredible coverage even on the first coat, this gorgeous pink leans slightly fuchsia. Inspired by Chanel’s reverse French manicure and a post by the lovely Eugenia on her Instagram recently, I decided to layer Girls Love Ponies over Angel with a Leadfoot for a gorgeous (at least I think so) combination:

OPI_Ford_Girls_Love_Ponies_revFrn Note that this is also called a Ruffian Mani. : )

Where do I stop with the favourites? If you know me, you know I absolutely adore white polishes (and vamps, but more on that later)… and Angel with a Leadfoot is, well, angelic! A soft white with great coverage, this one applied really well, for a white. If you wear whites, you know they can be streaky, but by the second coat, Angel had applied evenly and was drying to a gorgeous shine. A tip is to apply a little more generously than you would another shade, especially on the second coat. Alternatively, apply three very thin coats. Two coats, no top coat:

OPI_Ford_Angel_W_a_Leadfoot

Described as a golden pearl, 50 Years of Style is a soft gold that totally reminded me of the gold stripes on the classic Ford Mustangs. It applied really well, though being metallic, it can show application lines so apply quickly and with straight lines. 🙂 Two easy, quick-drying coats below:

OPI_Ford_50 Years of Style

Going for another Ruffian/reverse French manicure, I added the vampy Queen of the Road to 50 Years of Style. This is a very subtle Ruffian, barely visible in the sunlit photo. Queen of the Road is one of those must-have polishes: vampy and gunmetal gray in shade, but full of a fiery sparkle in the sun. Application was a breeze and best of all, no staining! As with 50 Years of Style, Queen can show application lines, but these are only visible in direct light. Two coats over 50 Years:

OPI_Ford_Queen of the Road
Last but not least, the very difficult-to-photograph The Sky’s My Limit, a shimmering blue hue with tiny blue, green and gold flecks that looked gold or silver in different light. This chameleon of a polish veered between green, turquoise and blue depending on the light. I found my photos looked more blue in sunlight, until I finally captured this photo which I think is a perfect representation of the polish: (two coats)

OPI_Ford_The_Skys_My_Limit

From OPI’s Chief Nail Polish Queen,  “In creating these six colors, I was inspired by Mustang’s rich heritage. Race Red – the hero shade of the collection – pays tribute to one of Mustang’s signature colors, while 50 Years of Style celebrates Mustang’s golden milestone,” says Suzi Weiss-Fischmann. “Queen of the Road was inspired by Mustang’s sophisticated and dramatic black interior. The Sky’s My Limit brings to mind the open road and the adventurous feeling of rushing to meet the horizon,” continues Weiss-Fischmann. “Girls Love Ponies is a classic, feminine pink representing today’s multifaceted consumer; who says a ‘girlie-girl’ can’t love cars?” Finally, Angel with a Leadfoot represents the power a woman feels when behind the wheel of a Mustang. This clean, pure hue is an essential statement-making shade.”

Ford Mustang is now available in limited quantities wherever OPI is sold.  For more information, visit www.opi.com, follow OPI on Twitter @OPI_PRODUCTS and become a Facebook fan!

The Rio Rush Collection by Gucci Westman for Revlon Summer 2014

olivia-wilde_Rio_Rush

A colourful, vibrant limited edition collection from Revlon, the Rio Rush Collection feels like heat, summer, salsa! A little bit of info from Revlon:

The latest collection from Revlon Global Artistic Director Gucci Westman transports you to the lush city of Rio de Janeiro during the height of its famous ‘Carnaval,’ a celebration of life, of dancing, and colour. The Rio Rush Collection by Gucci Westman for Revlon Summer 2014 captures the essence of this festival and brings together bright, tropical colours that evoke the sexiness of this vibrant carnival south of the Equator.

“I pictured a provocative Brazilian woman, full of life and fun,” said Westman of her collection inspiration. “She is bold yet sensual; fierce with a touch of glamour.”

This highly anticipated collection for Summer ‘14 draws a tropical vibe with radiant makeup for a look that is both
sexy and alluring.

Revlon ColorStay 16 Hour Eye Shadow is available in two new shades, Exotic and Wild.

Revlon_Rio_Rush_Eye_ShadowsColorStay 16 Hour Eye Shadow in Wild (L) and Exotic (R)

Wild is a gorgeously arranged quad containing a frosty vanilla, metallic taupe, sunburnt orange and deep teal (above left, clockwise from the lightest shade). You’ll notice it contains the complementary shades of teal and orange-red – perfect when paired! Unfortunately the beautiful taupe blended with my slightly tan skin, but you can see a hint of it at the top of the photo – it actually makes a gorgeous nude, even on my skin!

Exotic contains a soft metallic bisque, a muted violet, a vibrant matte yellow, and a soft black. Once again, complementary colours yellow and violet are present, resulting in a fun ’80’s effect when paired!

Revlon’s famous Super Lustrous Lipstick is available in three new shades: Brazilian Tan, Carnival Spirit and Sultry Samba:

Revlon_Rio_Rush_lipsticks

Swatches on my hand, with Sultry Samba on top, Carnival Spirit in middle, and Brazilian Tan on bottom. You can see the sheer finish of Carnival Spirit:

Brazilian Tan, a gorgeous nude creme that I absolutely loved, applied perfectly with an opaque, creamy finish:

Revlon_Super_Lus_Rio_Brazilian_Tan

Sultry Samba, the most vivid of the three, is a bright fuchsia that can be built up to full opacity with a fairly matte finish:

Revlon_Super_Lus_Rio_Sultry_Samba

Finally, Carnival Spirit appears bright in the tube yet is the softest of the three, applying a shiny, sheer wash of orange on your lips. It can be built up but not to full opacity. Its finish is moist and rich and feels amazing!

Revlon introduces four new limited edition shades with this Rio Rush Collection: Carioca Crush, Copa Sunset, Gold Goddess and Oi Beautiful. I have three of the four for you, starting with Oi Beautiful, a pretty mid-tone purple creme. Great coverage, high shine, all at two coats (no top coat):

Revlon_Rio_Rush_lacquer_OiBeautiful

A gold flake glitter, Gold Goddess has a clear base, making it a perfect topper for any shade! I paired it with Oi Beautiful for a gorgeous, regal soft glitter gradient:

Revlon_Rio_Rush_lacquer_OiBeautiful_Gold_GoddessIs that not a perfect pairing?

Carioca Crush is a beautiful blue shade with a slight jelly finish (you can see the jelly ever so slightly at the tips of my nails), so does need careful application. The work is well worth it as the shade is a muted blue, making it very wearable, especially with that gorgeous shine:

Also available, Revlon ColorStay’s Creme Gel Eyeliner in Rio Blue. This metallic blue is the perfect finish to your Wild or Exotic eyes:

Continuing on with my reveal of the summer brights in OPI’s Neon Revolution, today I bring you the other three polishes in this adorable mini pack! (See the pink one here!)

OPI_NeonMiniBtls

The Time is Pow! is a bright orange neon jelly, and is probably the brightest-looking out of the four in the bottle. I love a beautiful orange in the summer and this is no exception! The consistency was similar to Pink Outside the Box: jelly, smooth application. I applied two coats over white, but this time I left my index finger with just clear base – no white – to give you an idea of what it’s like alone.

Two coats over white, except index finger which is 2 coats over base coat, pre-top-coat:

OPI_Neon_TheTimeisPow

The orange was such a challenge for me to photograph… it kept photographing really pale in the sun, especially when I applied top coat. Here it is with top coat, super-shiny:

OPI_Neon_TheTimeisPowTC

The next lacquer was challenging to apply, especially because I rushed the white base also, leaving streaks on the white canvas. Don’t Say It – Yellow It! is a beautiful neon yellow, but due to its light colour, the jelly looks really sheer. Yellow is really difficult to apply when cream, so I found the jelly consistency to make it even more difficult. Here are 2 coats over white base, with top coat:

OPI_Neon_DontSayItEven with the slight streaking you see, I think I will give Yellow It another try. The shine and that colour are just too gorgeous!

Last but not least, Blue it Out of Proportion, a pretty and innocent-looking blue (in the bottle)! Blue is one of my favourite colours, and this blue jelly was dreamy! It really comes alive when applied over the white base, as you can see in the photo. I applied two coats Blue it Out of Proportion over white base:

OPI_Neon_BlueitoutofProportion

Overall, I absolutely loved this mini set. A perfect collection, released at the perfect time. I felt the summer heat just applying these beauties! The consistency overall was great, and loving jellies as much as I do, I would love to wear these differently. The only negative? I wish they were full-size bottles!

So which of the Neon Revolution minis is your favourite?

This limited-edition collection will be available in July wherever OPI is sold, including Nail Polish Canada, though I have heard that this set has already been spotted in stores!

Yesterday I promised you swatches of the beautiful, Limited Edition OPI Neon Revolution mini set, and today I have your first look… at hot, HOT pink, “Pink Outside the Box!!”

As announced, the Neon Revolution mini pack features four limited edition neon nail lacquers, along with a neon white base coat and OPI Top Coat. They are adorably cute!

OPI_NeonMiniBtls

OPI advises applying these lacquers in 3 simple steps:

  1. One coat of colour-intensifying white base
  2. Two coats of Neon lacquer
  3. One coat of OPI Top Coat

The white base, like almost all whites, tends to be a bit streaky if not applied carefully. This was not a big deal under Pink Outside the Box but can be under lighter colours. Here is one coat:

OPI_Neon_whitebase

The next step is applying the Neon shade. All the lacquers in this set are a jelly formula – lending themselves towards a sheerer application – which makes them perfect over a white, intensifying base. At first glance, in the bottle, POTB looks like a bright pink. But apply two coats of POTB over the white base… and it is absolutely and blindingly HOT PINK!!!

OPI_Neon_PinkOutsidetheBoxIs that not a perfect neon shade?

The polish dries to a slight satin finish as neons often do (you can see it in the picture above). Apply one coat of top coat, and it obtains a mirror-like shine:

OPI_Neon_PinkOutsidetheBoxTC

What do you think of Pink Outside the Box and the Neon Revolution mini pack? Were you as excited as me to get your hands on this?

Next time, I’ll bring you the rest of the OPI Neons, and you can pick your favourites.

This limited-edition collection will be available in July wherever OPI is sold, including Nail Polish Canada, though I have heard that this set has already been spotted in stores!

Today I have for you another amazing indie brand that has consistently created beautiful polishes and has an awesome creator, Smitten Polish! I previously reviewed Smitten’s Fall collection, and today I am excited to share some of Smitten’s Berrydrops collection!

First up, Bananaberry Gumdrop, a beautiful pale yellow crelly base with subtle flakies. I adore yellow, and yellow can be a pain when it comes to polish; a pain to find a good yellow, a pain to find a good polish, and a pain to apply. But Bananaberry Gumdrop is perfection. It is such a pretty pale yellow that I suspect it would look great on many skintones. And it is such a springy, summery, buttery yellow that I fell in love! It wasn’t as tricky as I thought it could be to apply… I applied a coat over base, let it dry, and applied a second coat.

Smitten_BananaberryGmdrp

Is that not like a banana pudding?? Delicious and shiny! I love it!

The second polish is Beautyberry Gumdrop, a sweet-looking lavender crelly with subtle flakies. What can I say but demure, pretty, subtle, ladylike. I wore this one for a few days and loved it every moment. Again, two coats over base coat, this one, with top coat:

Smitten_BeautyberryGmdrp

What I love most about the Berrydrops is their subtleness. You’ve probably read occasionally about my hesitance to wear crazy polishes to work, and these are absolutely work-appropriate without being boring!

The only downside, if I have to find one, is that the flakies can be sticky during removal, so you may need to scrub a little. Nothing like removing glitter though!

Have you tried any Smitten Polishes, and which one do you love most?

Smitten Polish is available on their Etsy store or from Llarowe.  Don’t forget to follow Smitten Polish on Facebook for the latest news and previews!!
