Today I have for you another beautiful Shimmer Polish, Sarah! Shimmer Polishes are insane glitter bombs, composed mostly of tiny glitters (shimmers), packed in either clear, tinted or jelly bases. I have yet to find a Shimmer Polish that I have not liked! Cindy, its creator, has so many polishes that I’ve now lost count!

Sarah is a tropical green and blue glitter polish in a clear base, with accent pieces of purple strewn in. I decided to layer it over China Glaze’s Keepin’ It Teal, a greeny turquoise jelly.

I used a generous coat of Sarah over Keepin’ it Teal. Look at how sparkly Sarah is in the sun:

Friends often ask me how my manicure lasts so long, and do I actually cook/clean/wash dishes? (For the record, yes, yes, yes! I actually love cooking.)

So how DO you make your manicure last longer?

Well… there are those all-important first steps: have clean, dry nails before starting your mani (even wiping quickly with a cotton pad soaked in alcohol can help polish adhere longer by removing nail oils), use a good quality base coat under your polish, allow a few minutes to dry between coats and apply 2 coats of polish… finish off with a top coat – I love a quick-dry top coat such as FNUG’s IGEL or China Glaze’s Fast Forward top coats. Wrap the free tip of your nail as you apply top coat (swipe it over the free edge).

So you have done all of the above. Now what?

Even the most careful among us will experience some tip wear after a few days. If you are not ready to let go of your mani, which was the case for me when I was wearing the beautiful Colors by Llarowe Cherry Bomb (see it here), you can extend your mani for a few more days!

How? Simply apply a gradient of your favourite glitter, preferably with a tinted base, over your tips!

How to apply a gradient?

“Dry-brush” the first coat of glitter: wipe the brush of the glitter polish inside the bottle, so you are left with more glitter, less base, and apply this over the tips. Let dry a few minutes.
Apply another coat of glitter polish over your tips, this time applying the glitter polish normally.
Let dry, apply top coat, and voila!

Here is the beautiful Shimmer Polish Karina, a perfect glitter to complement Cherry Bomb, applied as a gradient over my tips:

The best part? This barely takes a quarter of the time of a full manicure!

What do you think? Would you try this over a few-days-old mani?

Happy weekend!

I’m in a bit of a shimmery mood so today I have another gorgeous Shimmer Polish for you: Lorene! This one is described as a “Raspberry Mix” – a perfect description for this berry-coloured polish. The base is a deep berry colour, filled with tons of multi-hued glitter. The primary glitter colours that stand out are turquoise, magenta and lilac, accented with gold hexes. Like most Shimmers, the jelly base is great for layering, but I really wanted to wear Lorene on its own.

Here are 3 coats of Lorene with a coat of Gelous and a coat of top coat:

Happy Friday!!

Today I have another gorgeous Shimmer Polish for you, an absolutely loaded-with-glitter indie brand that has perfected the art of multichromatic glitter bombs. If you have never tried a Shimmer… well, just wait and see…

Taylor is a deep red jelly loaded with tiny shimmers in green, purple and red. Much like some of my favourite vampy Shimmers (see Mary, Karina, Marilyn), Taylor’s gorgeous wine-coloured jelly base allows the glitters to be suspended, seemingly in mid-air (mid-polish?), creating a jelly-sandwich-in-a-bottle! J’ADORE Taylor!!!!!!

Enough chat… look at this amazing polish, 3 beautiful coats with a coat of Gelous to smooth the glitter, and a final coat of China Glaze Fast Forward top coat:

I love the contrast of red and purple glitters in this wine-coloured base, colours you normally wouldn’t think to put together. And like most jelly glitters, you can wear Taylor alone or over a base colour, like a black.

Look at this macro of Taylor… sigh…

And another, slightly lighter macro for you to drool over:

So do you love it nearly as much as me?

Journey to Hair Oasis and Get the Best of Both Worlds with NEW göt2b Oil-licious Shampoo & Conditioner!

Coming off the success of the styling oil, göt2b recently introduced NEW Oil-licious Opulent Smooth Shampoo and Golden Shimmer Conditioner – a deliciously-scented duo to complement all hair types. Containing Argan Oil, Marula Oil and White Grape Seed Oil, the Smooth Shampoo and Golden Shimmer Conditioner provides lightweight manageability and touchable silkiness without the greasy feel sometimes associated with rich hair products.

got2b_Oil-licious S&C

As I like to do with beauty products whenever possible in order to provide an accurate review, I have been using the Oil-licious Opulent Smooth Shampoo and Golden Shimmer Conditioner for a few weeks on my wavy, colour-treated hair, and I am so obsessed that today I picked up a ton of backup!!

The Oil-licious Opulent Smooth Shampoo is slightly musky, sweetly scented in a clear, golden formula of smoothing oils. I have to warn you, a small amount of product goes quite a long way, cleansing without sudsing up to a huge lather… The first time I tried it, I thought I needed more shampoo, but it is a great product, cleansing well, allowing me to go a full 3 days between shampoos (which I do not do often!). That is saying a lot considering this a moisturizing shampoo. My hair felt not only cleansed, but protected and soft after use. And the continuous use is helping keep my hair shiny, soft and protected from all of the heat-straightening and curling I put my hair through.

Oil-licious Opulent Smooth Shampoo offers:

  • Micro-emulsion technology providing sumptuous shine and touchable smoothness.
  • Improvement of shine more than 100% versus untreated hair!

The Golden Shimmer Conditioner actually contains tiny traces of golden shimmer, which at first made me nervous… was it going to sparkle in my hair? Was it a special-occasion product? Rest assured that the shimmer simply serves to add additional shine to your hair once you rinse it out – no glitter here! It provides a light condition to protect your hair without weighing it down. And the slightly musky scent is delicious!!!

Oil-licious Golden Shimmer Conditioner delivers:

  • Effective detangling while nourishing hair with indulgent care of precious oils.
  • Restoration of damaged hair even before blow-drying!
  • Infused with Mica to impart a delightful golden shimmer.

The Oil-licious line was such a hit in my home that once again, I was finding myself “borrowing” the products from hubby’s shower. The unisex scent is delicious on my hair, and equally yummy when hubby uses it. Today I finally picked up backup so we each could have our own bottles! I’ve also purchased the famous Oil-licious Styling Oil and will hopefully be able to bring you a review soon!

göt2b NEW Oil-licious Opulent Smooth Shampoo and Golden Shimmer Conditioner retail for $7.99 each and are available at mass retail locations across Canada including Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart, PharmaPlus, Loblaws, Jean Coutu and Target Canada.

It’s piCture pOlish Thursday, and today I have for you another stunning Ozotic, one of the Beam polishes, #907!

Ozotic Beam is a collection of 4 gorgeous top coat-type polishes, “inspired by ‘reflecting luminous light beams’ hence the moonlight colours,” that at first glance all look similar:  white glass flecks with different shades of reflection in each polish. The Beam polishes can be worn alone or over black for an exploding effect “on your nail, reinventing itself to light changing crystals – simply amazing! A magical transformation in appearance that you need to see to believe!” from the piCture pOlish store’s description. : )  And 907 is described as having green and blue sparks, though I also see violet reflections in this beauty!

You want to know what I decided to layer this over? I decided to live on the edge a little and go with a gorgeous, summery shade from Nubar’s new My Sweet Escape collection. Nubar’s Jaded is a light turquoise, the colour of the ocean on a hot summer’s day…

And Ozotic Beam 907 did not disappoint!! It truly exploded in a three-dimensional effect on my nails, sparkling softly, the glass flecks dancing both in the sun and out. All this at just one coat over 2 coats of Nubar Jaded:

Ozotic_Beam907b

I love how beautiful the effect is, even over a lighter polish!! This to me, is a perfect summer manicure!

Look at that shine! And that deep, multichromatic shimmer really makes this manicure look like the sea….

One more picture:

Do you love this as much as I do? I am utterly obsessed with Jaded and 907 together! And what should I layer this over next….?
