ESCAPE TO ITALY
WITH THE VENICE COLLECTION BY OPI

THINK: Romantic color inspired by Baroque period decadence

WHAT THEY ARE: New lacquers and gels that pay homage to one of the world’s most beautiful cities. The leading nail professional and color experts at OPI have created a collection this Fall/Winter 2015 that captures the essence of one of Europe’s most romantic ancient capitals. A city of opulent pleasures, lavish artwork, and breathtaking Baroque architecture, for centuries Venice has inspired artists and composers to create works of timeless beauty. The world’s number one salon brand has created its own tribute to the famed “Queen of the Adriatic” with the all new Venice Collection. Featuring 15 new lacquer shades with matching GelColor to evoke the sumptuous elegance and grandiose splendor of the floating city, the OPI Venice Collection brings the alluring spirit of Venice to life anywhere.

OPI Co-Founder & Brand Ambassador Suzi Weiss-Fischmann explains, “Dreaming of Venice calls to mind people- watching in the piazza, sipping champagne in a gondola, or enjoying a gelato in an outdoor café as you stroll and float through this extraordinary city. So we created a collection of romantic reds, decadent blues, striking corals, dreamy pastels, elegant nudes, dramatic darks, and luxurious metallics that celebrate this vision of over-the-top indulgence.” This bold and elegant collection will introduce 12 new shades to the permanent OPI color family, and three limited edition offerings to ignite and renew your passion for color with a touch of Italian seduction.

I have to say, OPI’s preview boxes of the Venice Collection were adorable, with an Italian theme including a gold masquerade mask, Dean & Deluca tiramisu caramels along with some Ferrero Rochers to tantalize your taste buds.

How cute was this box??

Now for a few swatches of some of my very favourites from this collection!

Two immediate standouts for me (as you can see from the above photo of the Venice Collection box where I had displayed the two bottles) were I Cannoli Wear OPI and the sweet Gelato on My Mind. I mean… I LOVE these two shades! Of course I had no choice but to combine them into one of my favourite looks, an easy sponge gradient. Seriously though, how stunning are they together?

Another standout, and sure to be a hit for years to come, the pink-leaning nude Tiramisu for Two… truly a colour for divinity:

The beauty of the Venice Collection continues with A Great Opera-tunity, a pale salmon that makes for a darker nude.

I was so excited about OPI’s Brazil Collection that launched for Spring/Summer this year… those bright corals, pinks, red… but when I saw the nude selection of this collection… *thud*
If you are a neutral palette lover like me, you will literally want to stop reading, grab your wallet, and run to the nearest OPI salon. Seriously.

This collection immediately struck me as a home run, just like last year’s Euro Centrale collection. Ranging from brights to mocha to a deep green, there is something for every polish lover, and FIVE of the collection’s 12 shades are neutrals. That’s almost HALF the collection in neutral shades, with 3 of them being shades of nude. I am totally in love!

I decided to use the four creme earthy tones in an ombré manicure because they looked so beautiful together. All four of these cremes have a similar, warm-pink-toned base, making them not only gorgeous, but perfect complements to one another! And the formula? Perfection!!! No streaking, not even on the lightest shade Don’t Bossa Nova Me Around. Drytime was amazing too, even pre-topcoat.

My ombré manicure consisted of the lightest shade in this collection, and about to become another nude favourite OPI of mine (next to My Vampire is Buff), Don’t Bossa Nova Me Around; Taupe-less Beach, a gorgeous greyed taupe a few shades darker than the lightest; I São Paulo Over There, yet a few more shades darker than the previous colour and a mid-toned greyed mocha; and finally, OPI Scores a Goal, a rich chocolate creme (L to R in all pictures).

One of the polishes that I tried talking myself out of for weeks was Sonnetarium’s Snowfall. I kept thinking, I don’t need another glitter topper… just walk away.

Then I saw this glorious photo from Chelsea of The Nail Network, and all my thoughts changed to “!!!!!!!!!!!!” That gorgeous nude base!!! (Which reminds me. Why don’t I have Zoya Kennedy yet?)
It really looked like snowfall. I HAD to have it!

But as with all indie polishes you have to “have now,” Snowfall had a long list of fans. And like the much-sought-after Birkin, it was darn near impossible to get!! It seemed like forever, but after some waiting, it arrived!

Snowfall is a clear polish with tiny irridescent and multi-size white hex glitters. The irridescent pieces flash orange, pink, blue in different light. My favourite look with Snowfall is inspired by The Nail Network and is over a white, light or nude colour.

I used a base of an old(er) favourite of mine, OPI’s Canberra’t Without You, a gorgeous nude sheer polish. This poor polish has not received favourable reviews, and I can kind of understand why…. in the bottle, it’s a delicate, gorgeous nude with tiny specks of silver glinting throughout. When you apply the polish, most of those specks don’t make it to the nail. However, I still love this polish and use it often. I’ve just learned to apply it generously to diminish streaking…

Here is OPI’s Canberra’t Without You with two generous coats:

It’s pretty, isn’t it?

And here it is, topped with Snowfall:

Snowfall is still available from Sonnetarium’s online shop, and are 3-free. Sonnetarium offers both 9mL and 15ml sizes, and just restocked the shop!! Don’t forget to follow Sonnetarium on Facebook for the latest news!

So…what do you think?
