It has been a few years since I last brought you a CbL Collection, and I’m so excited to share their brand-new collection for Spring/Summer 2017 today! There are seven beautiful shades that will have you screaming for sun and heat, especially if you’ve been under rainy skies like we have. This collection launched yesterday, May 1st on Llarowe.com!

CbL Spring Summer 2017_

The first of the seven shades is She Sells Sea Shells, a bright pinkish-red linear holo with pink to lilac shimmer. Totally passable as a one-coater, She Sells Sea Shells applied smoothly and provided perfect, lush coverage with its second coat. I can’t wait to wear this cool bright polish for my summer pedis!

CbL_She_Sells_Sea_Shells

The other shade in this colour family is You’re a Little Firecracker, a bright deepened fuchsia-red multi chrome holo with a purple/blue flame that shifts from deep fuchsia to copper orange to bright fuchsia. Llarowe calls this one a “summer vamp for your nails!” Another polish with perfect coverage and dreamy application, YaLF was almost a one-coater and its holo, perfection. Just a warning that the intensity of this one could stain a little, so use a good basecoat and don’t smear a polish-soaked remover pad when removing. Just LOOK at the holo in the slideshow below!

Dream Big, the only purple in this collection, is described as an indigo-purple creme base with delicate but intense pink to gold to red shimmer. Although it looks quite deep in the bottle, once applied, I found it to be more of a midtone with beautiful complexity. I live for hidden shimmer!

If you love neons, you will need Radioactive in your life! An intensely bright neon green creme base with intense red to gold to chartreuse shimmer, this one is truly blinding. I found this polish to be more of a jelly, and therefore a bit on the sheer side, even at two coats. To make it truly pop even more, wear this one over an opaque white!

CbL_Radioactive

One of my favourites from this collection has to be The Bluest Eyes in Texas. Siiigh… Described as a bright milky turquoise blue creme base with intense gold shimmer and hints of gold to red/pink to green shimmer, this beautiful light blue shows intense fiery and pink flashes. Leah Ann was inspired to make this beauty by her sister’s eyes. Oh to have such lovely eyes!

The last two polishes in this collection bear the same name. The first, The Deep End, is a vivid turquoise-based multi-chrome that shifts from turquoise to green to blue to purple to pink. I found The Deep End to be a bluish teal with intense shifts in colour, needing a full two coats for complete opacity. It’s almost like a crelly (cream-jelly) polish, and so so gorgeous:

And last but not least, my other favourite from this collection, The Deep End (H), which is basically the holographic version of the above polish. Described the same as its non-holo twin, a “vivid turquoise-based multi-chrome that shifts from turquoise to green to blue to purple to pink,” it has an incredibly gorgeous added holo sparkle. Do you see the two-toned nails in the slideshow below?? The deep blue-to-algae-turquoise looks exactly like the depth of the ocean!

Look at these macros of holographic The Deep End!! I was utterly mesmerized by the beauty and sparkle of this polish!

One of a beauty addict’s worst accidents is a nail polish spill. And not just a nail polish spill, but the crushing death of not only your favourite polish, but also the white/taupe/beige carpet or rug it fell on. Now you have nail polish on your rug.

So how do you remove nail polish from a carpet? Read on for more!

A quick Google search for “remove nail polish from carpet” quickly leads you to a tip sheet including the following points:

  1. Upon discovering any nail polish stains on your carpet, wet the stain with cold water.
  2. Spray 15-20 pumps of hair spray, followed by three to five small splashes of rubbing alcohol. This is the best approach when you’re wondering how to remove nail polish from carpet.
  3. Using a small scrub brush, scrub the nail polish stain directly for about a minute. While you’re scrubbing, keep pouring clean, cold water onto the stain throughout the process.
  4. Repeat this process until the nail polish stain is no longer visible.

I tried the above “how to” tips to remove this polish from the carpet, but didn’t quite get the results I was looking for. So I added non-acetone nail polish remover. And blotted. And blotted some more using clean paper towels… Still not quite removing the hot pink polish mess on my carpet. That’s how I landed upon the following tricks guaranteed to remove your polish from your carpet!

Here is what you will need:

  • OxyClean or similar non-bleach stain remover
  • Hot water
  • Non-acetone nail polish remover
  • Hair spray
  • Sponge
  • Paper towels
  • Brush or old toothbrush

  1. Blot the polish spill to remove any wet nail polish, using clean cloth or paper towel each time so as not to spread the mess. Do not rub!
  2. Apply some nail polish remover on the spill, and blot, never rubbing. Blot using clean paper towel each time, otherwise you will transfer polish onto clean areas.
  3. Mix a scoop of OxyClean into about 2-4 cups hot water, preferably in a bucket.
  4. Apply this OxyClean mixture, using a sponge, on the stain. Rub this in, but only one small polish-stained area at a time. (This prevents spreading the coloured foam this creates, and prevents your spreading the stain.)
  5. Spray a good dose of hairspray onto the stain.
  6. Blot and repeat blotting the small area you just worked on.
  7. You can also scrub the small stain using a brush/toothbrush to work the stain remover in, but blot between scrubbing to prevent foam/coloured water from spreading the stain.
  8. Your polish stain should start to fade to a different colour–in my case, it became orange.
  9. Now pour some non-acetone polish remover on the small area you are working… Blot. You will see polish transferring onto your paper towel.
  10. Continue blotting, using a fresh piece of paper towel each time.
  11. Scrub using OxyClean mixture again. Spray hairspray. Blot again.
  12. Apply polish remover and blot again.
  13. This does take some scrubbing but your stain will start to fade, until it is no longer visible. The key is to blot. A LOT.
  14. Once you are happy with the result, blot using clean towels or paper towel to absorb as much of the fluid as possible.
  15. Et voila!

Here was my result after scrubbing once with the OxyClean mixture:

A little better:

Until finally, the nail polish stain was gone from the carpet:

I am pretty confident that if I was able to remove this hot pink (with shimmer!) nail polish, my tricks will help you clean your light-coloured carpet or rug with some help and elbow-grease. 🙂

Let me know if this method worked for you! Good luck!

As some of you who follow my social media streams may know, I’ve been a little quiet lately… unfortunately I lost my father a few days ago. The only positive in his passing is that he did not suffer long; he was diagnosed with a very aggressive and advanced cancer that would have destroyed his insides. It is a rotten disease that needs a cure; a cure that must, in our advanced society, surely be forthcoming. I also want to thank you for the many wishes and condolences you have sent our way…

Moving on to happier things, I wanted to introduce you to the beautiful Bella from Shimmer Polish! I recently reached out to Cindy to create a custom Shimmer… something vampy but different from her other vamps that I love. She came up with this beauty, a black jelly base with tons of burgundy glitter, hints of silver, and reflections of gold and red in sunlight. I asked Cindy to name it after my beautiful Doberman-mix Bella.

Bella’s black jelly base is quite sheer, so I layered it over the gorgeous crelly Dior Vernis Nuit 1947 to maintain the jelly qualities I so love. I used only one coat of the Dior, and added two thin coats of Shimmer Polish Bella, topped with two coats of top coat:

It’s piCture pOlish Thursday again and today I bring you another sparkly gem that is part of the Limited Edition Collaboration shades! piCture pOlish is an amazing brand that created the Collaboration Shades, polishes that the piCture pOlish Girls created with bloggers or their Network members (online vendors). How cool is that?

piCture pOlish Atomic was created with blogger Sarah of Samarium’s Swatches, and launched in January of this year. Sarah was inspired by the element Samarium, her blog namesake, a silvery white metal. Samarium oxidizes in the air, forming a grayish-yellow powder, and that is why there is gold shimmer sparkle in her creation!

piCture pOlish describes Atomic as a silver/white metallic holo (scattered) that has NO glitter.  Atomic contains a holographic shimmer to create a magical shade, complex with a lot going on!

Atomic is a pale silver with a warm tint, making it suitable to, in my opinion, all skin tones. It is perfect for layering – it’s sheer enough to be a top coat-type polish in order to change the base colour, but today I wanted to capture its pure beauty. Below I used two generous coats of Atomic over base coat, and luckily it was a sunny day so that you can see the amazing holo sparkle!

picturepolish_atomic

I personally like VNL (visible nail lines), but if you wanted total opacity, you could add a third coat of Atomic or layer it. You know what else is amazing? Atomic dries super-quickly, so you don’t have to worry about layering or using three coats!

Here is a picture of Atomic slightly blurred to show off the amazing delicate holo for you:

picturepolish_atomic_blur

Do you think I should layer Atomic over a coloured base next time?

Get your very own bottle of Atomic by visiting piCture pOlish on-line and or any piCture pOlish Network member, including Harlow & Co, Llarowe and Nail Polish Canada. And don’t forget to follow the Girls on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram for all the latest news, giveaways, and more!!

I recently shared with you part 1 of Nubar’s My Sweet Escape collection, a gorgeous set of eight luxe and summery shades for Spring/Summer 2013. The collection includes bright cremes and creme pastels. I love the span of shades in this grouping, and have broken it up into two posts for you: the brights (here), and the blue/greens which I have for you today!

Here is the cool “travel bag” the collection arrived in:

Nubar_MySweetEscapepkg

Here are the gorgeous blues and greens of the collection for you to drool over!

Let’s start with Jaded, a light turquoise, reminding me of the colour of the ocean on a tropical beach, and one of my ultimate favourites of this set. Like the other Nubars I’ve experienced, the formula was leaning towards a crelly – a cream jelly – and I simply adore jellies. On the first coat it was a little sheer, as jellies tend to be, but the second coat levelled easily and provided perfect coverage. Enough reading; look at this polish that transports me to Bora Bora (well, in my mind anyway):

Nubar_Jaded1

That is two easy coats over base. I had not even applied top coat as I ended up using Jaded for another look – and look at this shine!

Here is a shade picture that leans more blue:

Nubar_Jaded2

And see what I did with Jaded and Ozotic here – simply gorgeous!

A close relative of Jaded is My New Obsession, though I think my two bottles were mislabeled and mine was labeled Dusk Till Dawn. 🙂 My New Obsession is a shade darker and a hint bluer than Jaded, making it a medium turquoise-blue. Formula on this was fantastic, and here are 2 coats over base coat, before adding top coat:

nubar_MyNewObsession_2

The above sun photo really emphasizes the teal in My New Obsession, whereas in artificial light it leans even bluer:

nubar_MyNewObsession_1

Is that not a perfect shade?? So wearable, and perfect for the rising temps!! And I love how Nubar included two “related” shades in this collection.

The final blue polish from My Sweet Escape is Dusk Till Dawn (which is the other mislabeled bottle so I was calling this the wrong name in my previous Ozotic post!).  Dusk Till Dawn is a royal blue, though I hesitate to call it either bright or dark – in reality it is a perfect cerulean, and a touch darker than my camera insisted on capturing it. Here are two gorgeous, shiny coats over base coat:

nubar_DuskTillDawn2

Here is a picture of Dusk Till Dawn in sunlight:

nubar_DuskTillDawn1

Yet another wearable, gorgeous blue!! And best part of all? NON-staining!! (When I find blues or greens that do not stain, I jump for joy.  Just today I was cringing at staining from another blue!)

And check out my Dusk Till Dawn/Ozotic manicure here.

Last but not least, Into the Wild, a muted emerald green. I am not always a green fan… I like certain greens and in small doses, but I think Into the Wild may be the polish to convince me to wear green on my tips! It’s a pretty Kelly Green, and now (oddly) I think of Grace Kelly whenever I see these swatches. Regal, beautiful, lady-like, just like Princess Grace. It truly is a spectacular colour, and like the others, was an amazing consistency. Here are two generous coats, pre-top coat, and this shade picture is extremely colour-accurate:

Nubar_IntoTheWild2

Is that not a pretty, summery green?

One more picture, this time direct light so it leans a touch lighter:

Nubar_IntoTheWild1

Check out my last combo utilizing the My Sweet Escape beauties here, Into the Wild with piCture pOlish Ariel’s Tale! (I am loving these Nubars, alone or as bases!)

Once again, I was quite impressed with Nubar. In my experience, their polishes have consistently delivered amazing shine and wearability, and this entire collection was the same. I love the variety of shades My Sweet Escape delivers, screaming summer, sun, and beach. If you are looking for summer and bright colours, you need My Sweet Escape.

Like all nubar products, “My Sweet Escape” Collection is free of formaldehyde, toluene, and DBP (phthalate), and is vegan and cruelty free. Nubar is available directly from Nubar’s online shop, from Nail Polish Canada, Harlow & Co. and other fine retailers.

So which one do you like best?

Today I have a couple of the latest beauties from Sonnetarium for you. These are a part of her Winter 2012 Collection, a gorgeous, delectable-looking collection of five polishes perfect for the holiday and winter season.

The first colour is candy for your fingertips: Peppermint Kiss, a gorgeous, near-white with the slightest whisper of pink, filled with white, green and red hexes in multiple sizes. Loving white bases (and jellies!), this was a fun variation of a holiday polish. Love!

Sonnetarium_PeppermintKissFor this mani, I used two generous coats of Peppermint Kiss alone, though I did think about layering it over a coat of my favourite jelly white, OPI’s Funny Bunny. Next time for sure. 🙂

Up next, Twelve Days, a hot and bright jelly with small gold, silver and white glitters. This one is seriously glitter-dense and sparkly! It was so hard to capture the beautiful red on camera as the glitters wanted to dance for my camera, but here are two coats with a coat of top coat:

Sonnetarium_TwelveDaysCoverage on Twelve Days was amazing. The first coat is a little sheer, but ultra-vibrant, and by the second coat, perfection!

I loved both these polishes. I love that they are winter colours, though I would wear them at any time. Both of these beauties are available from Sonnetarium’s freshly updated online shop, and are 3-free. Sonnetarium offers both 9mL and 15ml sizes… Don’t forget to follow Sonnetarium on Facebook for the latest news!

(Product provided for consideration and review. All opinions are my own.)

Today I bring you part 2 of the gorgeous OPI Skyfall Collection. The polishes are divided into two groups: the Dangerous and the Seductive shades, and I previously reviewed some of the Seductive collection here. Let’s look at some of the gorgeous Dangerous shades today!

First up, a gorgeous “blurple” polish that I adored and still have on from my last pedi, Tomorrow Never Dies.

I love OPI’s description of this:  This eternally intense purple will live forever.

Tomorrow Never Dies is a perfect, gorgeous deep indigo purple with a hidden, duochrome-y red and blue shimmer. The polish was amazing. It’s deep enough to be perfect for fall, but it has this amazing luminosity… it glows from within. And look at that shimmer!!! It is incredible!

I used 2 coats for these pictures, over base coat, with one coat of top coat. Application was perfect and easy.

And one more:

I just adore Tomorrow… loved everything about it! The best part? It was super-shiny and non-staining upon removal!

Next up, Moonraker, a beautiful, very metallic, grey-tinged silver polish. It is so metallic it almost reminded me of stainless steel appliances… I absolutely loved the cool steeliness of this colour. However, the formula was something else. It was… lumpy, thin. I am not sure where the formulation went wrong, but this polish not only shows brush strokes, I couldn’t even go over an area twice or else it dragged the polish away and created a bald spot. I was disappointed in this formula. Hopefully OPI reads the reviews and reformulates because, you know what, it is a gorgeous, gorgeous polish once on!!

I used 2 generous coats for these pics (over base coat, with top coat):

Look at this colour in the sun! It is the perfect polar opposite of OPI Goldeneye:

And the third colour in my Dangerous Shades review, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, was one I debated posting here… It was so very close to one of my recent untrieds, Zoya FeiFei, that I wondered whether to devote an entire post just to comparing the two! (And why oh why have I not worn FeiFei yet!)

OPI’s description of Majesty’s is: This misty-green pewter commands attention.

It is a stunning pewter, densely packed with tiny, tiny multi-colour shimmers, the most visible of which I found to be gold, blue and green. It is so glittery, and has an almost holographic effect. It was pretty sheer at one coat… have a look:

But still quite shiny (just one coat over base–isn’t it crazy?)!
Though it goes on quite sheer, I love how the second coat leads to perfect opacity. I found I could wear Majesty’s Secret Service with 2 generous coats, not needing a third. Look at that holographic sparkle!!

I couldn’t resist adding a comparison to Zoya FeiFei, a similarly beautiful pewter sparkler. Can you tell which is Zoya and which is OPI?

They are very similar. Zoya is slightly more blue-leaning, with tiny blue shimmers, whereas OPI On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is a green-leaning pewter. It was really hard to capture the differences in a photo, but OPI definitely provides more coverage than Zoya FeiFei. Zoya needed a good three coats to achieve opacity – it was really sheer, while I have on only 2 coats of OPI above.

Here they are, identified:

Were you able to tell them apart?

Overall, I simply loved the Skyfall collection. The colours were gorgeous and different, and I love that OPI came out with different lines to commemorate 50 years of James Bond and the Skyfall movie! (See the Seductive shades here and check out the incredible OPI Magnetics here!!)

Don’t forget that OPI has released a mini set of 4 beauties for the holiday season: Bond-ettes features four shimmery shades from the new limited edition Skyfall lacquers. The Bond-ettes mini set features a spectrum of light to dark shimmers: GoldenEye, The Spy Who Loved Me, Live and Let Die, and The World is Not Enough.

For more information, visit OPI.com, follow them on twitter, and become a Facebook fan.

This collection, as well as the mini set, is now at salons and stores, including Nail Polish Canada for online shopping convenience!

Hope you get your hands on a few of these beauties… which do you love the most?

And to wrap up my OPI Skyfall Collection reviews, enjoy the Skyfall preview!!! I will be watching this movie as soon as it is released – happy birthday to me! 🙂
