ESCAPE TO ITALY
WITH THE VENICE COLLECTION BY OPI

THINK: Romantic color inspired by Baroque period decadence

WHAT THEY ARE: New lacquers and gels that pay homage to one of the world’s most beautiful cities. The leading nail professional and color experts at OPI have created a collection this Fall/Winter 2015 that captures the essence of one of Europe’s most romantic ancient capitals. A city of opulent pleasures, lavish artwork, and breathtaking Baroque architecture, for centuries Venice has inspired artists and composers to create works of timeless beauty. The world’s number one salon brand has created its own tribute to the famed “Queen of the Adriatic” with the all new Venice Collection. Featuring 15 new lacquer shades with matching GelColor to evoke the sumptuous elegance and grandiose splendor of the floating city, the OPI Venice Collection brings the alluring spirit of Venice to life anywhere.

OPI Co-Founder & Brand Ambassador Suzi Weiss-Fischmann explains, “Dreaming of Venice calls to mind people- watching in the piazza, sipping champagne in a gondola, or enjoying a gelato in an outdoor café as you stroll and float through this extraordinary city. So we created a collection of romantic reds, decadent blues, striking corals, dreamy pastels, elegant nudes, dramatic darks, and luxurious metallics that celebrate this vision of over-the-top indulgence.” This bold and elegant collection will introduce 12 new shades to the permanent OPI color family, and three limited edition offerings to ignite and renew your passion for color with a touch of Italian seduction.

I have to say, OPI’s preview boxes of the Venice Collection were adorable, with an Italian theme including a gold masquerade mask, Dean & Deluca tiramisu caramels along with some Ferrero Rochers to tantalize your taste buds.

How cute was this box??

Now for a few swatches of some of my very favourites from this collection!

Two immediate standouts for me (as you can see from the above photo of the Venice Collection box where I had displayed the two bottles) were I Cannoli Wear OPI and the sweet Gelato on My Mind. I mean… I LOVE these two shades! Of course I had no choice but to combine them into one of my favourite looks, an easy sponge gradient. Seriously though, how stunning are they together?

Another standout, and sure to be a hit for years to come, the pink-leaning nude Tiramisu for Two… truly a colour for divinity:

Yesterday I promised you swatches of the beautiful, Limited Edition OPI Neon Revolution mini set, and today I have your first look… at hot, HOT pink, “Pink Outside the Box!!”

As announced, the Neon Revolution mini pack features four limited edition neon nail lacquers, along with a neon white base coat and OPI Top Coat. They are adorably cute!

OPI_NeonMiniBtls

OPI advises applying these lacquers in 3 simple steps:

  1. One coat of colour-intensifying white base
  2. Two coats of Neon lacquer
  3. One coat of OPI Top Coat

The white base, like almost all whites, tends to be a bit streaky if not applied carefully. This was not a big deal under Pink Outside the Box but can be under lighter colours. Here is one coat:

OPI_Neon_whitebase

The next step is applying the Neon shade. All the lacquers in this set are a jelly formula – lending themselves towards a sheerer application – which makes them perfect over a white, intensifying base. At first glance, in the bottle, POTB looks like a bright pink. But apply two coats of POTB over the white base… and it is absolutely and blindingly HOT PINK!!!

OPI_Neon_PinkOutsidetheBoxIs that not a perfect neon shade?

The polish dries to a slight satin finish as neons often do (you can see it in the picture above). Apply one coat of top coat, and it obtains a mirror-like shine:

OPI_Neon_PinkOutsidetheBoxTC

What do you think of Pink Outside the Box and the Neon Revolution mini pack? Were you as excited as me to get your hands on this?

Next time, I’ll bring you the rest of the OPI Neons, and you can pick your favourites.

This limited-edition collection will be available in July wherever OPI is sold, including Nail Polish Canada, though I have heard that this set has already been spotted in stores!

(Product provided for consideration and review. All opinions are my own.)

It’s piCture pOlish Thursday, and today I have for you a beautiful new Collaboration Shade, polishes that the piCture pOlish Girls created with bloggers or their Network members–Hope by Vernis en Folie! This shade was launched less than 2 weeks ago by Bé of Vernis en Folie (see her launch blog post here), along with two other brand-new Collaboration Shades, and I knew I had to place an immediate order. This was one of the fastest non-indie polish purchases I ever made!! Well, we digress… let’s get to the task at hand, shall we?

Hope was inspired by the impending birth of Bé’s little girl in 2013 (she has now arrived). Hope is described as a dark teal blue jelly scattered holo with a subtle smattering of cobalt glitter designed to come alive with a little shake of the bottle. Have I told you how much I adore its name??

At first glance, I thought Hope was going to be similar to Cosmos (created with Pshiiit–see my review here!), though I could see it was much darker… like the depth of the ocean. Or the dark-clouded sky before a storm. Pshiiit herself has done a fantastic comparison of three of the blue-toned Collaboration Shades – see her post here. Hope is stunning. What I loved was its darkness with the glimmer of a subtle holo and tiny, sporadic blue glitter pieces. The glitter totally sets it apart from Cosmos, as does its teal base (Cosmos is much bluer). Hope, much like most of my piCture pOlish products, was an easy application: fluid yet providing lots of coverage on one coat, self-levelling, incredibly quick drying! My two coats were dry before I even had the chance to apply top coat, and I like to use medium to heavier coats.

And did I tell you that I applied Hope over two coats of Revolution, piCture pOlish’s new glitter base coat? Here are the details around Revolution, which you apply just like any base coat, except you are advised to use two coats:

Using ‘Revolution’ base enables you to remove your glitter polish similar to normal nail polish!

Application

Apply 2 coats of Revolution as your base (allow drying time in between)

Revolution dries fast, is not PVA Glue, does not a peel off. Also can be used as a top coat for ‘foil manicures’ discovered by Cathy from More Nail Polish!

Apply your glitter polish as you normally do.

Removal

Soak your makeup pad in nail polish remover and cover your nail, soak, leave for 15 seconds, remove.

Apply more remover to the pad, cover your nail and give it a good scrub. Continue the process and the glitter will remove with ease.

Please note: Individual results may vary – designed to work with piCture pOlish shades.

Here are two coats of gorgeous Hope with over Revolution, pre-top coat!

picturepolish_HopeI’m sorry, have you seen piCture pOlish’s shine???

Here is a photo with flash, so you can see the beautiful holo:

picturepolish_HopeFl

Does that not look like a black, stormy night sky filled with stars?

Best part? Not an ounce of staining after wearing this the past few days!

And I’m sure you want to know about Revolution’s removal. I followed the instructions and soaked each nail for about 10 – 15 seconds, and although this is not a glitter polish, it does contain glitter and I was eager to see how Revolution worked. I found that the polish would start to come off onto the cotton pad even before I started rubbing the nail bed, and the glitter barely stuck to my nail. Throughout the removal, Revolution was pilling a little on my nail, like little dry balls of eraser left behind on a sheet of paper, though very soft and rubbery. My polish came off easily, quickly, no scrubbing needed! I have already applied it under my next mani… let’s see how it holds up against glitter though I am prepared to be impressed!

I love this brand. I love how the Girls are fully immersed in social media, and I love how much they love their bloggers and customers. They have amazing giveaways on Facebook, so be sure to follow them (if you don’t already!). Get your very own bottle of Hope (I just love saying that) and Revolution by visiting piCture pOlish on-line and or any piCture pOlish Network member, including Harlow & Co, Llarowe and Nail Polish Canada. I believe they might both be sold out at the moment, but more is on the way!

And don’t forget to follow the Girls on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram for all the latest news, giveaways, and more!!

I recently shared with you part 1 of Nubar’s My Sweet Escape collection, a gorgeous set of eight luxe and summery shades for Spring/Summer 2013. The collection includes bright cremes and creme pastels. I love the span of shades in this grouping, and have broken it up into two posts for you: the brights (here), and the blue/greens which I have for you today!

Here is the cool “travel bag” the collection arrived in:

Nubar_MySweetEscapepkg

Here are the gorgeous blues and greens of the collection for you to drool over!

Let’s start with Jaded, a light turquoise, reminding me of the colour of the ocean on a tropical beach, and one of my ultimate favourites of this set. Like the other Nubars I’ve experienced, the formula was leaning towards a crelly – a cream jelly – and I simply adore jellies. On the first coat it was a little sheer, as jellies tend to be, but the second coat levelled easily and provided perfect coverage. Enough reading; look at this polish that transports me to Bora Bora (well, in my mind anyway):

Nubar_Jaded1

That is two easy coats over base. I had not even applied top coat as I ended up using Jaded for another look – and look at this shine!

Here is a shade picture that leans more blue:

Nubar_Jaded2

And see what I did with Jaded and Ozotic here – simply gorgeous!

A close relative of Jaded is My New Obsession, though I think my two bottles were mislabeled and mine was labeled Dusk Till Dawn. 🙂 My New Obsession is a shade darker and a hint bluer than Jaded, making it a medium turquoise-blue. Formula on this was fantastic, and here are 2 coats over base coat, before adding top coat:

nubar_MyNewObsession_2

The above sun photo really emphasizes the teal in My New Obsession, whereas in artificial light it leans even bluer:

nubar_MyNewObsession_1

Is that not a perfect shade?? So wearable, and perfect for the rising temps!! And I love how Nubar included two “related” shades in this collection.

The final blue polish from My Sweet Escape is Dusk Till Dawn (which is the other mislabeled bottle so I was calling this the wrong name in my previous Ozotic post!).  Dusk Till Dawn is a royal blue, though I hesitate to call it either bright or dark – in reality it is a perfect cerulean, and a touch darker than my camera insisted on capturing it. Here are two gorgeous, shiny coats over base coat:

nubar_DuskTillDawn2

Here is a picture of Dusk Till Dawn in sunlight:

nubar_DuskTillDawn1

Yet another wearable, gorgeous blue!! And best part of all? NON-staining!! (When I find blues or greens that do not stain, I jump for joy.  Just today I was cringing at staining from another blue!)

And check out my Dusk Till Dawn/Ozotic manicure here.

Last but not least, Into the Wild, a muted emerald green. I am not always a green fan… I like certain greens and in small doses, but I think Into the Wild may be the polish to convince me to wear green on my tips! It’s a pretty Kelly Green, and now (oddly) I think of Grace Kelly whenever I see these swatches. Regal, beautiful, lady-like, just like Princess Grace. It truly is a spectacular colour, and like the others, was an amazing consistency. Here are two generous coats, pre-top coat, and this shade picture is extremely colour-accurate:

Nubar_IntoTheWild2

Is that not a pretty, summery green?

One more picture, this time direct light so it leans a touch lighter:

Nubar_IntoTheWild1

Check out my last combo utilizing the My Sweet Escape beauties here, Into the Wild with piCture pOlish Ariel’s Tale! (I am loving these Nubars, alone or as bases!)

Once again, I was quite impressed with Nubar. In my experience, their polishes have consistently delivered amazing shine and wearability, and this entire collection was the same. I love the variety of shades My Sweet Escape delivers, screaming summer, sun, and beach. If you are looking for summer and bright colours, you need My Sweet Escape.

Like all nubar products, “My Sweet Escape” Collection is free of formaldehyde, toluene, and DBP (phthalate), and is vegan and cruelty free. Nubar is available directly from Nubar’s online shop, from Nail Polish Canada, Harlow & Co. and other fine retailers.

So which one do you like best?
