In keeping with the rather grey and dreary weather fueled by Hurricane Sandy today, I thought I would bring you gorgeous greys:  one of my favourite Shimmer Polishes with my very favourite a-England Gothic Beauty!

a-England, a bijoux brand that I simply adore, recently released a dark collection named Gothic Beauties. I adore vamps and had to have all five polishes the moment Adina released them!!

And today I bring you my first review of this collection, featuring the gorgeous Dorian Gray. All of the Gothic Beauties have the beautiful black a-England Camelot as a base, and Dorian Gray is as dark of a gunmetal grey as you can get, even shining in a pearly black in some lights.  This beautiful metallic gunmetal is described as “an intensely sinister pewter grey, forged with a forgiving deep golden shimmer.” And how sinister it is! The deep golden shimmer is very subtle, allowing Dorian to reflect in more of a metallic sheen.
Like many of my a-Englands, Dorian Gray was a one-coater — thick and self-levelling, and really not needing a second coat (though I did apply one). The best part? It’s a smooth, liquid thicker polish, drying quickly and evenly, showing nary a brush stroke.

Here it is, two coats over a coat of The Knight basecoat, topped with a coat of The Shield top coat:

I love how dark and truly sinister it looks with flash:

Do you see that golden, blueish shimmer?

As if Dorian Gray wasn’t spectacular enough on its own, I added this incredible Shimmer Polish that I adored the moment it arrived: Shimmer Vanessa, a slightly darkened jelly base featuring pewter, silver and red glitters, with some black thrown in for good measure. You would think such a dark polish may be subdued, but not Vanessa. It was sparkling in the dimmest light!!! It was simply spectacular!

Here is one coat over my previous Dorian Gray mani:

It was insanely sparkly!!! People stopped me to compliment this manicure!

Here is a macro for you to drool over 🙂

Tell me that is not a swoon-worthy polish!

I love how elegant this mani turned out. It was sparkly and party-ready, but not in-your-face. I wore this mani to a concert at a classic concert hall, with a gorgeous black dress… it was perfection!

You can purchase a-England’s Gothic Beauties (along with all their other beauties) directly on their website, from Nail Polish Canada, or from their US stockist Llarowe.

(Some product was provided for consideration and review. All opinions are my own.)

I had to have this sucker. Not because of its novel namesake… but when I saw it glistening on Dollish Polish’s page, I just had to have it. If you know me, you know that anything that sparkles beckons me!!

The Many Shades of Mr. Grey is a sparkly new creation from Dolly, the creator behind Dollish Polish. I have several of her beauties that you can see here.  The Many Shades is a monochrome grey glitter confection. According to Dollish Polish, “this glitter polish boasts an array of grey-hued hexagon glitters ranging from micro-sized to large size all in a clear base.” It is literally packed full of grey glitter!

Even though it’s still scorching hot outside, and we are still in the heat of summer, I wore this beauty the day I received it. I decided to stick with the monochromatic scheme and wear it over beautiful Pelican Grey from China Glaze.

Pelican Grey is the ultimate medium grey polish. It needs an even two coats as it can be a bit tricky to apply on the first coat, but it has this very subtle shimmer that makes it THE grey cream to have in your collection.

Let me show you what I mean with a macro shot. Look at that gorgeous shimmer!

Then I added two coats of The Many Shades of Mr. Grey. This looked like a mirror mosaic:

I kept trying to capture the mirror-reflection-look but my camera just wanted to capture each piece of glitter…

The Many Shades needed a bit of coaxing during application to get the glitter to provide coverage, and that is why I decided to add a second coat, but it wasn’t as difficult as some of the bar glitter polishes I have worn in the past. I sometimes get glitter hexes hanging off the edge of my nails, which then act like hangnails and pull on things, so I had to do some maneuvering with a cuticle stick, but again, it was a manageable application.

I also added a coat of Gelous followed by my China Glaze Fast Forward Top Coat to try and smooth down the rough texture of the glitter.

So while not exactly season-appropriate, grey is always appropriate in my books, and I loved this look. If you are looking for your very own bottle of moody Mr. Grey, you can try Dollish Polish, Llarowe, and I believe Overall Beauty carries this polish also.  And don’t forget to follow Dolly on Facebook here for the latest restock updates!

What do you think? Summer-appropriate? or always appropriate? 🙂

You may remember the guest blog from Mai raving about Lynnderella’s Gotta Love Brains, but now I finally have my very own bottle! 🙂

I was a bit hesitant after my very first Lynnderella experience (with Mercurial) didn’t quite live up to what I’d seen elsewhere and expected… but I was still dying to try GLB.

And one lucky day a few days ago… appeared a bag of nail mail!!

I immediately removed my polish as I just could NOT wait. I decided to layer GLB over a coat of China Glaze’s Pelican Grey, a gorgeous light grey with a subtle shimmer (a colour that can certainly stand on its own as well!). Not sure what it is about grey polishes, but I cannot seem to get enough of them! I topped that off with two very thin coats of GLB… and voila!

What do you think?

{Don’t mind my slightly dry hands here ;)}

I tried to keep the subtlety of this particular glitter by not layering it on too thick–GLB has a stunning fine sparkle/shimmer to it like most other Lynnderella polishes, and the scattered glitter really is part of its charm.

Here’s another shot:

What impressed me the most about this gorgeous colour (aside from the beautiful grey-ness!!) was how easily it applied and how shiny it has stayed! I used a coat of Gelous before applying a top coat, and it has been shiny for 3 days so far.

This is definitely one of my faves, and has confirmed my love of the beauty that is Lynnderella!!

A big thank you to Llarowe for continuing to cater to the demand of this successful line!
