UD Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette

When you think of Urban Decay, you probably think of their incredible Naked Palettes, eyeshadow palettes that have become synonymous with “makeup must-have.” And imagine if one of the world’s coolest girls co-created a palette of her very own with this super-cool brand… Then you would have the Limited Edition UD | Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette, a collaboration collection of 15 shadows!

A true creative partnership and design collaboration, and Urban Decay’s very first celeb-collab, Gwen spent countless hours chatting makeup with UD and was involved in every aspect of this palette, from the case to the final shades. Gwen wanted to create a palette of colours that she had always wished to have in her collection, finally settling on a large range of neutrals and a few jewel tones for pop… 12 of which are brand-new shades while three are from the UD shadow collection, making this Ms. Stefani’s very own go-to kit to achieve her own most iconic looks!

Just look at this huge variety of neutral shadows — and in true Stefani style, Gwen threw in a metallic cool pink and metallic royal blue for the rockstar babe in you!

The 15 shades, many named after Gwen’s songs, are: Blonde – a pale beige w/pink iridescent shift, Bathwater – a pale beige w/gold pearl, Skimp – a pale nude satin, Steady – a medium rose w/metallic gold shift, Punk – a reddish brown matte, Baby – a beautiful cool metallic rose, Anaheim – a light taupe-brown matte, Stark – a nude-pink matte, Zone – a medium brown matte, Serious – a perfect smoky gray w/iridescent floating pearl, Pop – a pale coral w/iridescent sparkle, Harajuku – the metallic blue-pink w/iridescent micro-shimmer to throw you off the nudes you thought you were getting, Danger – a deep metallic royal blue w/blue micro-sparkle, 1987 – a bright metallic yellow-gold, and finally, Blackout – the blackest black matte must-have for every rockstar’s palette!

Below are the top two rows of the palette (unfortunately the lighting blended Stark into Anaheim three shades from the right — you can see it toward the lower right of the photo):

And finally all 15 of the gorgeous shadows:

I absolutely LOVE the metallic royal blue – bright but muted enough to be highly wearable. And that gold is so Gwen… subtle but buildable gold. Love!

All of these shadows were finely milled and super-pigmented, even the nudes. Application was silky and buttery, and I love that they can be built up very easily. Fallout was minimal, as I’ve come to expect from UD – unless you’re caking on your eyeshadow, you should not expect flaking! Even Serious and Blackout, the most pigmented of the mattes, will stay put and apply incredibly well – go crazy, Baby!

The only note I will make is that the three nude metallic shades are quite soft, and require only gentle pressure when swiping it with my shadow brush, otherwise you could get a bit of fallout on the shadow pan itself. And who wants to lose that much shadow! 😉

Here is another photo of the palette in artificial light:

Another fun fact: Gwen and UD cofounder Wende first met back in the early days of both No Doubt and UD – UD was created right around the same time that Gwen hit the music scene.

And when UD says Gwen collaborated with us on every detail of this palette, we mean it—right down to the case, which was inspired by her love of black-and-white graphic prints and antique gold accents. She also handpicked most of the shade names, which were based on her songs. There’s even a nod to the No Doubt song “Magic’s in the Makeup” on the palette’s huge mirror. How cool is that? 🙂
