Continuing with my weekly piCture pOlish posts, today I bring you one of my favourite vampy polishes, piCture pOlish Monroe! This is Monroe Reborn, the second version of this cult classic, but I will also show you a comparison of Monroe Original vs Monroe Reborn.

Monroe is described as a blood red jelly with scattered holographic, with no glitter. Monroe contains a holographic shimmer for that extra special touch and more rainbows of course!  Your nails will take on a whole new dimension when in bright light or sunlight! The holo effect is gorgeous on Monroe – shimmery, rainbow hues sparkling on your nails!

When Monroe was first reformulated, I was disappointed… I thought the piCture pOlish Girls were messing with perfection. But to be honest, even though I adore Monroe Original’s jelly base, it was a bit tricky to apply, streaking if you went over an area twice, whereas Monroe Reborn is self-levelling and a perfect consistency, making it easy to apply and almost a one-coater. Not only that, but the new Monroe is insanely holographic!!!

Here are two gorgeous coats of Monroe, before I even applied top coat:

picturepolish_MonroeThe holo bits are reflecting in this indoor lighting!

Here it is in the sun:

picturepolish_MonroeSunI am in LOVE with this holo beauty!

The original Monroe was one of my first piCture pOlish loves. In fact, I believe it was the first piCture pOlish I ever ordered! And because of how curious I was myself when the new Monroe was released, here are some comparison shots of Monroe Original vs Reborn for you:

picturepolish_MonroeComp

Can you tell which is the new and which is original Monroe?

Monroe Reborn: index and ring fingers
Monroe Original: middle and pinky

And here is a photo with flash, comparing the two:

picturepolish_MonroeCompFl

The above picture shows the intensity of the holo in new Monroe; the pieces are larger and much more intense, whereas original Monroe had a very faint and subtle holo effect. Monroe Reborn has the same scattered holo as Cosmos and some of the Ozotic holos – simply stunning!!

I am still obsessed with Monroe Original, and am really lucky to have a backup bottle. (As you can imagine, I use it sparingly!) However, Monroe Reborn is a new love of mine, not only because of the holo effect and its alluring vampy shade, but also thanks to its fantastic ease of application and speedy dry time!

If you love holos as much as me, you can get Monroe by visiting piCture pOlish on-line and or any piCture pOlish Network member, including Harlow & Co, Llarowe and Nail Polish Canada.

And don’t forget to follow the Girls on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and now Instagram for all the latest news, giveaways, and more!!

Happy weekend! It is a gorgeous weekend here and I thought I would bring you a few more polish swatches from my favourite indie brand, Aphrodite Lacquers.

AL’s last collection, the stunning Romes & Jules collection, consisted of 10 gorgeous shades, with something for everyone. You can see some of the beauties in this post, and today I will show you three of the lighter polishes from the Romes & Jules collection!

The first colour, and my very favourite from the entire collection, is Inauspicious Stars, a milky white jelly base with white and pastel pink, purple and blue glitters, with tiny holo microglitters scattered throughout. Inauspicious Stars is like the “light” version of Violent Delights; a multi-colour glitter, only this time, in a pastel version. This was one of the polishes unveiled with the release of the second part of Romes & Jules, and it was as though Rebecca had read my mind: while wearing Violent Delights, I was thinking that a pale version of this would look amazing… it would be highly wearable, and allow us to wear glitter even when a crazy, bright glitter polish may not be appropriate. And the next thing you know… Inauspicious Stars was released!

Here are two coats over 1 coat of OPI Funny Bunny, my go-to white jelly:

Aphrodite_InauspiciousStarsIs that not lovely, and so demure?

The next white-based beauty is Capulets, another milky-white base with lots of bright colorful glitters, both matte and shiny. This polish is so colourful and fun, and contains the much-sought-after circle glitters along with square and hex glitters. I decided to layer 2 coats of Capulets over 1 coat of Funny Bunny:

Aphrodite_Capulets

The last polish I have for you today is Fortune’s Fool, another gorgeous milky base, this time in a light blue colour with lots of different blue and holo glitters and a hidden pale blue shimmer. I simply adore Aphrodite Lacquers’ hidden shimmer bases – they dance for you in certain light and are spectacular! You can see it in my picture, especially on my ring finger. Fortune’s Fool was a little sheerer than the other polishes, so I used three coats here, over base and without top coat. Look at that shine!

Aphrodite_Fortune's-Fool

Once again, these polishes reinforce my love of Aphrodite Lacquers and her indie polishes. Rebecca, its creator, can do no wrong!

To get your very own Aphrodite Lacquers, including these stunners from the Romes & Jules collection, head over to Aphrodite’s Etsy shop! For more pictures and the latest news, don’t forget to follow Aphrodite Lacquers on Facebook and on Twitter!

If you’re anything like me, then you are perpetually in search of the perfect lip balm. When I heard that Elizabeth Arden was launching not one, but two lip products based on their best-selling Eight Hour line, I knew I had to try them!

Some background from Elizabeth Arden:

Since its introduction in 1930, Elizabeth Arden’s original Eight Hour® Skin Protectant has been an international sensation that’s passed down from generation to generation. While the formula for the iconic “miracle” cream has remained virtually unchanged, the Eight Hour® collection has expanded to include multiple products for the face and body. Both Eight Hour® Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm and Nourishing Lip Balm SPF 20 leverage Elizabeth Arden’s spa science, the brand’s unique approach to beauty that merges 100 years of hands-on spa experience and product innovation with the latest scientific innovations.

The first product:

Eight Hour® Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm delivers intense, long-lasting moisture. The rich gel formula also helps strengthen lip’s delicate moisture barrier, leaving lips healthier-looking and more beautiful than ever before. Packaged in a portable jar with a twist off lid, Eight Hour® Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm imparts lips with subtle sheen and a refreshing eucalyptus-based fragrance. This balm’s ingredients and benefits include:

  • Petrolatum, Shea Butter, Palm Tree Butter, Essential Fatty Acids complex and Honey Extract — high level mixture of emollients and moisturizers helps seal in moisture as it smoothes and softens lips
  • Petrolatum and Arnica Flower Oil —helps heal dry, chapped lips and create a protective film to protect against future damage
  • Vitamin E Acetate, Vitamin A Palmitate, Honey Extract and Watercress Extract replenish essential nutrients lost over time
  • Menthol and Menthol Lactate– cooling agents provide immediate soothing relief
  • Cardiospermum Halicacabum – botanical extract which help soothe and calm skin

EA_intensiveLiprepairSource

The Eight Hour® Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm is the one I was most excited about trying as our Canadian winter wreaks havoc on the delicate lip skin. I use lip balms religiously, throughout the day and before bed, and even then, I sometimes end up with wind- or winter-chapped lips. I cannot bear having chapped lips, yikes! So in order to bring you a valuable review, I decided to give the Eight Hour Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm a month-long trial, using it daily at least once, in addition to every single night before bed. My findings:

  • The product is buttery soft, the consistency of whipped, near-room-temperature butter.
  • It is not greasy though: the gel-formula applies a barrier over your lips without being like petroleum jelly.
  • It has the slightest scent of eucalyptus and honey, and leaves a hint of a cooling sensation when applied. I found this cooling effect to be more noticeable when your lips are chapped or dry, eg from wearing matte, drying lipstick.
  • It leaves a delicious soft feeling on your lips when you go to bed with it, and also makes a wonderful base for your lipstick when heading out.
  • While using this product, I have had softer lips every morning when I wake up. Even after a day of wearing lipstick or gloss, my lips are not dry.

I am absolutely obsessed with this Intensive Lip Repair Balm!! I was actually away, without my Lip Repair Balm for a couple of days, and came back with wind-burned lips. I don’t think I can go to bed wearing anything else.

For your day-to-day use, the Eight Hour® Cream Nourishing Lip Balm SPF 20 provides lips with the essential, daily moisture they need. This luxurious gloss is enriched with 8 vitamins, minerals and nutrients and minerals, and includes UVA and UVB broad-spectrum sun protection. Housed in a portable squeeze tube with a slanted lip applicator, Nourishing Lip Balm SPF 20 indulges lips with sheer shine and a neutral scent. This nourishing treatment’s ingredients and benefits include:

  • Petrolatum, Lanolin, Shea Butter, Castor Oil, Palm Tree Butter, Essential Fatty Acids complex and Honey Extract — high level mixture of emollients and moisturizers helps seal in moisture, as it smoothes and softens lips
  • Petrolatum and Lanolin — creates a protective film to protect against future damage
  • UVA and UVB Filters — provides broad spectrum sun protection
  • Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Vitamin B1, Omega 6, Omega 3, Calcium, Zinc and Iron — replenishes 8 essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients lost over time

EA_NourishingLipSPFSource

Working hand-in-hand with the Intensive Lip Repair Balm, the Nourishing Lip Balm with SPF 20 provides daily protection from the elements. I love the tube applicator that you can toss in your purse and carry with you! Here is what I found with this product:

  • Has a nearly undetectable scent, and comes out in a pale pink cream that applies invisibly on your lips.
  • Wore this daily under both lip gloss and lipstick. Used it under one of my favourite red matte lipsticks and it created a moisturizing canvas for the product. My new trick is to apply this over the matte lipstick as well, in order to prevent the drying, cracking effect of that lipstick. Works like a charm!
  • The Nourishing Lip Balm is extremely nourishing, providing long-lasting relief from dryness.
  • I decided to test this product’s moisture delivery by actually wearing it to bed, and even with its SPF, I woke up with incredibly soft lips the next morning!

Needless to say, Elizabeth Arden blew me away with this addition to their Eight Hour product line, and I am obsessed. I love the texture, the scent, and most importantly, the result of both these products.

In Canada, they are both available for purchase at The Bay, Sears, Shoppers Drug Mart, London Drugs and Pharma Plus Ltd. The Eight Hour® Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm 15ml jar retails for $28.00 Cdn, and the Nourishing Lip Balm SPF 20 15ml tube is $23.00 Cdn.

Check out ElizabethArden.com for purchasing in the US.

It’s piCture pOlish Thursday, and today I have for you a sparkly gem of a polish, Majesty!

Majesty is another Collaboration Shade, polishes that the piCture pOlish Girls created with bloggers or their Network members. And this is what piCture pOlish has to say about this creation:

Majesty was created with Sahrish from Sahrish Adeel’s Inspiration: a shade that would be perfect for every occasion, every skin type, every age –  basically everyone!  And what a challenge that became however we never gave up! And yes with Majesty your nails will look perfect everyday…

Majesty is a taupe/pink/nude with micro gold sparks and holo (scattered) and has NO glitter. Majesty contains a holographic shimmer to create a shade just perfect for everyone for every occasion!

Read all about how Majesty was created on Sahrish’s blog!

I was excited to review this shade because it truly is a universally flattering soft gold with a faint taupe base colour. It is filled with micro glass flecks that sparkle in a multitude of colours, depending on the light. I found it to reflect greenish-gold on the surface of the nail, though it sparkled the way that scattered holos do: a little bit of pink, gold and green flashes.

It applies quite sheer on the first coat, making it a buildable polish that reaches near-opacity by the third coat. This makes it a cool layering polish, so of course, that is what I did! Reaching for a gorgeous taupe untried, I used two coats of OPI’s Berlin There, Done That, from their recent Germany Collection:

OPI_BerlinThereDoneThat

(Why have I not worn this spectacular polish in the months since picking it up??)

And here is a generous layer of Majesty added to the above mani:

picturepolish_Majesty

I felt that OPI’s Berlin There, Done That was the perfect base for Majesty, not overpowering it, but also allowing me to show Majesty’s beauty with just one generous coat.

To show you the scattered holo sparks, here is a slightly blurred photo:

picturepolish_MajestyBlur

Beautiful, gold, sparkly!

I simply adore piCture pOlish products, and I adore them more for creating these cool Collaboration Shades! (Check out my other Collaboration Shade reviews here and here.)

If you love holos as much as me, you can get your very own Majesty by visiting piCture pOlish on-line and or any piCture pOlish Network member, including Harlow & Co, Llarowe and Nail Polish Canada.

Let’s start this week off right with a vibrant and juicy colour!

I recently came across some beautiful pictures on Instagram, bright, shiny polishes that captivated me. Turns out we have a new brand in the polish world, a boutique lacquer named Bondi New York, and I could not wait to try one for myself!

A little something about Bondi: Launched in 2013, Bondi New York is a collection of twenty fashion forward colors that are five free (formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, camphor, toluene and DBP). Based out of New York, our brand is American made with all of the net profits going to our non-profit foundation which supports a wide variety of charitable causes throughout the United States.

The concept behind this new polish company is amazing. I love beauty companies with a cause; knowing that your purchases are not only good for you, but supportive of charities.

My first Bondi New York polish is Chasing the Sun, an aptly named orange:

bondi_ChasingTheSun_bottle

The product describtion from the Bondi website:
Channel your solar powers with a little daylight on your digits. A vibrant orange will get your manicure noticed even on the dreariest of days. Consider yourself sun-worshipped.

Consider me converted!

Chasing the Sun is an absolutely gorgeous bright orange, not so bright that it’s blinding or neon, but definitely bright. Orange is one of my favourite summer colours, and this hue is perfectly wearable. While it will be brightening up your dreary days, just imagine this beauty on sunkissed skin!

The formula on Chasing the Sun was wonderful. It provided a lot of coverage on the first coat, levelled easily, and on the second coat was flawless. The SHINE on this product was blinding! (I did not bother adding a top coat to let you see its shine.)  The only slight drawback I can mention was that I wished the brush to be a touch wider as it was more of a rounded, delicate brush. However, that could be because I have gotten quite used to (and comfortable with) the OPI wide Pro-brush. If you prefer the control of a rounded brush, you will love this!

Here are two gorgeous coats over base coat:

bondi_ChasingTheSun

I am smitten.  What do you think of this new player in the lacquer world?

Get your very own Chasing the Sun or another Bondi beauty on the Bondi New York website, or check out Harlow & Co for the entire range!

And don’t forget to welcome Bondi by following them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!

I recently shared with you part 1 of Nubar’s My Sweet Escape collection, a gorgeous set of eight luxe and summery shades for Spring/Summer 2013. The collection includes bright cremes and creme pastels. I love the span of shades in this grouping, and have broken it up into two posts for you: the brights (here), and the blue/greens which I have for you today!

Here is the cool “travel bag” the collection arrived in:

Nubar_MySweetEscapepkg

Here are the gorgeous blues and greens of the collection for you to drool over!

Let’s start with Jaded, a light turquoise, reminding me of the colour of the ocean on a tropical beach, and one of my ultimate favourites of this set. Like the other Nubars I’ve experienced, the formula was leaning towards a crelly – a cream jelly – and I simply adore jellies. On the first coat it was a little sheer, as jellies tend to be, but the second coat levelled easily and provided perfect coverage. Enough reading; look at this polish that transports me to Bora Bora (well, in my mind anyway):

Nubar_Jaded1

That is two easy coats over base. I had not even applied top coat as I ended up using Jaded for another look – and look at this shine!

Here is a shade picture that leans more blue:

Nubar_Jaded2

And see what I did with Jaded and Ozotic here – simply gorgeous!

A close relative of Jaded is My New Obsession, though I think my two bottles were mislabeled and mine was labeled Dusk Till Dawn. 🙂 My New Obsession is a shade darker and a hint bluer than Jaded, making it a medium turquoise-blue. Formula on this was fantastic, and here are 2 coats over base coat, before adding top coat:

nubar_MyNewObsession_2

The above sun photo really emphasizes the teal in My New Obsession, whereas in artificial light it leans even bluer:

nubar_MyNewObsession_1

Is that not a perfect shade?? So wearable, and perfect for the rising temps!! And I love how Nubar included two “related” shades in this collection.

The final blue polish from My Sweet Escape is Dusk Till Dawn (which is the other mislabeled bottle so I was calling this the wrong name in my previous Ozotic post!).  Dusk Till Dawn is a royal blue, though I hesitate to call it either bright or dark – in reality it is a perfect cerulean, and a touch darker than my camera insisted on capturing it. Here are two gorgeous, shiny coats over base coat:

nubar_DuskTillDawn2

Here is a picture of Dusk Till Dawn in sunlight:

nubar_DuskTillDawn1

Yet another wearable, gorgeous blue!! And best part of all? NON-staining!! (When I find blues or greens that do not stain, I jump for joy.  Just today I was cringing at staining from another blue!)

And check out my Dusk Till Dawn/Ozotic manicure here.

Last but not least, Into the Wild, a muted emerald green. I am not always a green fan… I like certain greens and in small doses, but I think Into the Wild may be the polish to convince me to wear green on my tips! It’s a pretty Kelly Green, and now (oddly) I think of Grace Kelly whenever I see these swatches. Regal, beautiful, lady-like, just like Princess Grace. It truly is a spectacular colour, and like the others, was an amazing consistency. Here are two generous coats, pre-top coat, and this shade picture is extremely colour-accurate:

Nubar_IntoTheWild2

Is that not a pretty, summery green?

One more picture, this time direct light so it leans a touch lighter:

Nubar_IntoTheWild1

Check out my last combo utilizing the My Sweet Escape beauties here, Into the Wild with piCture pOlish Ariel’s Tale! (I am loving these Nubars, alone or as bases!)

Once again, I was quite impressed with Nubar. In my experience, their polishes have consistently delivered amazing shine and wearability, and this entire collection was the same. I love the variety of shades My Sweet Escape delivers, screaming summer, sun, and beach. If you are looking for summer and bright colours, you need My Sweet Escape.

Like all nubar products, “My Sweet Escape” Collection is free of formaldehyde, toluene, and DBP (phthalate), and is vegan and cruelty free. Nubar is available directly from Nubar’s online shop, from Nail Polish Canada, Harlow & Co. and other fine retailers.

So which one do you like best?
