Monthly Archives: January 2013

I recently had the pleasure of reviewing a beautiful winter/holiday collection of polishes from Sonnetarium. The collection is made up of five holiday-themed and -named polishes in beautiful wintry colours.

The first part of this review can be found here, and today I bring you two more polishes from this collection.

Sugarplum is a beautiful, warm-toned purple with pink shimmer and holographic purple glitter. What a perfect name for this polish!!

I layered Sugarplum over China Glaze’s Creative Fantasy, a gorgeous bright purple jelly from their Cirque du Soleil collection:

Sonnetarium_SugarplumIsn’t it perfect? Creative Fantasy leans a bit cooler than Sugarplum, and I love that you can see the coolness at different angles, such as on my index finger. The coverage on this polish was amazing… I could easily have worn two coats alone.

The next polish is Lenten Rose, a clear base with very light pink, white, and iridescent glitters. This is one of those special polishes that you simply fall in love with; a perfect topper for almost any colour. I layered it over my favourite creme from the China Glaze Cirque collection, Surreal Appeal. Just have a look at this:

CG_SurrealAppealIs that not a spectacular pink-salmon colour? I know what I’ll be wearing this summer!!

And look at how incredible Lenten Rose looks with Surreal Appeal:

Sonnetarium_LentenRosePerfection! Lenten Rose is such a delicate and feminine polish… I love its subtlety! I can’t wait to wear it with more base colours… I think it will look amazing over summery brights!

Both of these beauties are still available from Sonnetarium’s online shop, and are 3-free. Sonnetarium offers both 9mL and 15ml sizes, and just restocked the shop!! Don’t forget to follow Sonnetarium on Facebook for the latest news!

The China Glaze Cirque collection polishes are still available at salons and professional beauty supply stores nationwide. For more information, visit or follow China Glaze on Facebook, Twitter (@ChinaGlaze) and Pinterest.

NEW PREVAGE® Clinical Lash + Brow Enhancing Serum

Thankfully I have been lucky enough to enjoy lashes that, with some good mascara, looked long and full. However, lately I’ve noticed that they are not always as full as they used to be, so I was thrilled to give the new PREVAGE® Clinical Lash + Brow Enhancing Serum.

According to Elizabeth Arden, this revolutionary new treatment clinically proven to make lashes and brows appear longer, fuller and healthier in as little as two weeks*. The newest addition to the PREVAGE® family, it treats lash and brow breakage and brittleness due to aging, lack of nutrients and vitamins, and environmental assaults.

This new addition to the Prevage product line-up is supposed to treat lash and brow breakage and brittleness, which was music to my ears (and eyes).  When I wear difficult-to-remove mascaras or liners, I notice the price I pay to wear them: I lose lashes and let’s face it, as we get older, these babies just don’t grow back as fast!

The instructions are to:

Apply once daily at bedtime to clean eye area. Using the applicator, apply one stroke of PREVAGE® Clinical Lash + Brow Enhancing Serum to the base of upper and lower lashes, from the inner to outer corner. Follow the same directions for brows, covering the entire eyebrow area. Continue using 3 – 4 times per week to maintain the desired look and condition of lashes and brows.

I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had heard of extreme lash growth with other similar lash serums, and though I love long lashes, I was a little nervous. I didn’t want crazy furry lashes!

Nevertheless, I was excited and started using this product before Christmas, about the middle of December. To be honest, I forgot to apply it a few nights (when I was tired lol)… It was really easy to use — you apply it like a liquid liner along the lash line. The product is clear, and applies slightly wet, drying quickly.

I didn’t notice much improvement the first couple of weeks, but in the last week or so, I’ve noticed slightly longer lashes and a touch more fullness. It is especially noticeable when I wear mascara – they look much longer and fuller then, and I know it’s not just the mascara as they are the same products I’ve been using for months. (In case you’re wondering, I currently use L’Oreal’s Voluminous Mascara and Benefit they’re Real! mascara. 🙂 )

I’m curious to see how this growth will hold up as I reduce the use of the serum from daily to a few times a week. Overall, I was quite impressed with the results, especially given the minimal effort required.

Here is some more information from Elizabeth Arden:

ABOUT Oz The Great and Powerful

Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved wizard character. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great wizard but into a better man as well.

“Oz The Great and Powerful” is produced by Joe Roth, with screen story by Mitchell Kapner and screenplay by Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire. Grant Curtis, Palak Patel, Philip Steuer and Josh Donen are serving as executive producers. “Oz The Great and Powerful” opens in U.S. theaters on March 8, 2013.

Happy Sunday!

Today I have you for you a few gorgeous La Femme polishes, another untried brand for me. These polishes were stunning, especially the holos. They are spectacular!

I’ve been on a bit of a purple kick lately, so here is beautiful Delicada, described as a delicate lilac linear holographic. It is so pretty and delicate, indeed.

Two coats over basecoat in natural daylight:

I love the shine!!

And two coats with flash:

Look at that holo sparkle! This polish is subdued with a gorgeous hint of lilac, but the light makes it come alive with brilliance!

Another neutral beauty is La Femme Natural, a spectacular silver linear holographic. What I loved about this polish was that although it looks very silver in the bottle, it’s actually quite subtle, and not an in-your-face silver.

Here are two coats over basecoat in the sun. I think this is my favourite of the holos!!

And here it is with flash. Flash brings out the silver of this beauty:

The third polish I have for you today is Valiosa, described as a mint green linear holographic, though I would describe it as more of a pistachio polish. It is a light green with a warm undercurrent…

Two coats over basecoat, in full sun:

The final holographic La Femme polish I have for you is Preciosa, described as a Robin’s egg blue linear holographic, a perfect description of this icy cool-blue hue.

Here it is with 2 coats, no topcoat. You can see a hint of the linear holographic even without direct light:

And check out the intense holo in a photo with flash:

Which do you like best?

By now you probably know how I feel about my jelly polishes… especially jelly sandwiches! My last one even became my best post to date (check it out)!

For today’s post I used one of the new Selena Gomez for Nicole by OPI collection, Confetti Fun, a perfect rainbow glitterbomb, sandwiched between a base of Aphrodite Lacquers Fluerier, a pink jelly glitter, topped with my very favourite, OPI’s Funny Bunny!

NOPI Confetti Fun seems to be a near-dupe for OPI’s Rainbow Connection: it’s a rainbow-hued glitter with small and medium-sized pieces; however, what sets it apart from Rainbow Connection is its micro glitter and higher density of glitter. (Unfortunately I don’t have Rainbow to do a comparison post). I LOVE Confetti Fun and it is just perfect for jelly sandwiches!

Aphrodite Lacquers’ Fluerir was previously reviewed here and here, and Funny Bunny here and here.

Here are the bottles:

And here is the final result. (I had really filed my nails down to nubbins…)

Nicole by OPI Nail Lacquers and Nail Treatments contain no DBP, Toluene, or Formaldehyde. Nicole by OPI formulas are long-lasting, fast-drying, and salon-quality. Selena Gomez lacquers are available now for $7.99 each at retailers including select Target, Walmart, CVS, K-mart, Rite Aid, ULTA, Sears, Meijer, Fred Meyer, Kroger and H-E-B locations. In Canada, this line will be available for $10.99 each at Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart Canada, Jean Coutu, Loblaw, and London Drug.
