America’s Funniest Family!

Nicole by OPI and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products Announce Collaboration with
Hit ABC Comedy Modern Family

Nicole by OPI, in partnership with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products, launches 14 new nail lacquers inspired by ABC’s award-winning comedy, Modern Family. The nail line features shades created to capture the show’s colourful personalities, from a classic taupe named after family patriarch Jay, to a sparkly pink hue fitting for toddler Lily.

“Modern Family is not only one of the funniest shows on television, it features a great ensemble cast of rich characters that inspired a range of shades, from pastel hues like sea foam green and periwinkle to brighter colors of cobalt and red-violet,” remarks Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, Nicole by OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “From studious Alex to bombshell Gloria, to classic (and neurotic) Claire, to flirty Haley, there are shades to represent each of these uniquely fabulous women – and everyone else in the blended family.

“The Nicole consumer embraces the same spirit of diversity and individuality that’s apparent on the show,” explains Weiss-Fischmann. “The colors inspired by Modern Family offer a perfect way to express that spirit!”

Modern Family is produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television and licensed through Fox Consumer Products. Jeffrey Godsick, President of Fox Consumer Products added, “Modern Family is a series that has a massive following. In partnering with Nicole by OPI, we’re not only able to reach our show’s large fan base, but deliver a product that captures the trend-forward elements and unique characteristics of the series.”

I recently had the pleasure of sharing my very first Naild’ It polishes with you, and today I bring you a couple more from her recent Holiday 2012 collection!

First up, a fun and gorgeous polish, Light Show, described as a  lavender “jelly base with neon lights and black wire/bulb bases.” And once I read that description, it totally reminded me of Christmas lights! I could even imagine the black “bulb bases,” lol. The base colour is a faint grey-lilac, with tiny holographic particles that are visible in direct light. And the neon and bright glitters! Love!!

Here are two coats over base coat, topped with a coat of China Glaze Fast Forward Top Coat:

Look at this slightly blurry pic to see the holographic shimmer that I mentioned:

NaildIt_LightShowSee them dance against the neon glitter pieces? I love the complexity of this polish!

Up next I have Snow Queen, an aptly-named polish that could almost have been part of a Disney Princess movie. Naild’ It describes it as a “white shimmer base with fierce blue eyes and black crows.”  I really see a bright, shimmery silver base polish, perfect for winter and totally reminding me of a Snow Queen.

Here are two coats with base and top coat:

Snow Queen could totally be layered over base colour if you wanted to brighten its effects, but I love the silver sheen the two coats provided here…

Naild’ It polishes are available on  Etsy, as well as from Llarowe, Overall Beauty, and MeiMei’s Signatures.

Happy weekend!

Today I have a wonderful charitable trio of polishes for you… polishes that are not only gorgeous enough to purchase, but 50% of proceeds benefit each of these polishes’ charities. All three polishes have a scattered holographic base – just beautiful!

First up is Ultimate Service, a pistachio-colour holo polish that leans slightly gold/yellow, and supports Disabled Veterans. I love how very different this colour is! I see a beautiful pistachio shade, the scattered holo is stunning. I’m not usually a big fan of green polish but I love this colour.

Here are two coats with base and top coat:

Isn’t this spectacular??? I think this was my very favourite of the three!!

Next up is Give Hope, a deep pink holographic polish with pink holographic glitters. 50% of proceeds will go towards National Breast Cancer Research Society.

Here are two coats with base and top coat. I love how easily Give Hope applied, and look at that shine!!

Now look at Give Hope in the sun:

NaildIt_GiveHopeSunGive Hope is a beautiful, girly pink polish… isn’t it? And what a wonderful cause.

And the third polish, Make Your Wish, a blue holo polish that’s described as shifting between blue, green and yellow;  you can see the slight turquoise tone in the photo below. Make Your Wish proceeds benefit the Make A Wish Foundation! It contains dark blue and holo glitters, as well as holographic moons, stars and large circles. A complex glitter-filled gem!!

Here are two coats with base and top coat in the shade. Unfortunately I don’t think I was able to catch any stars here but you can see all the other cool glitter shapes 🙂

And here is a pic of it in the sun, showing the incredible holo and complexity of all the glitters:

Knowing that many indies are small businesses, it warms my heart when these incredibly talented people choose to donate their time and profits to charities. It is incredible generous of them to do, and it helps us, the buyers, feel a little better about our purchase. 🙂

Naild” It polishes are available on their Etsy shop (which is currently closed though), as well as from Llarowe, Overall Beauty, and MeiMei’s Signatures.

The upcoming OPI Euro Centrale collection for spring and summer 2013 is one I’ve been waiting for.  Described in the press release (see it here) as “celebrating a region where history meets modern design, the collection’s twelve new nail lacquers offer a mixture of glamorous metallic hues; playful bright shades in periwinkle, aqua and pink; and creamy blues in indigo, midnight and aubergine.” And glamorous and perfect they are!! I adore the huge variety of this collection, spanning the colour spectrum from light to dark and from creme to metallic to glitter.

First up, Vant to Bite My Neck?, a deep aubergine… vampy, the way I like my dark polish, with amped-up shine in a dreamy creme base. This could almost be a one-coater. It’s a perfect consistency, applying evenly and drying in great time. What did I say? Dreamy!!

OPI_Euro_VantToBiteThat is two coats over OPI’s base coat. I cannot wait to wear Vant to Bite again; it is such a versatile colour. I am a little surprised that this was included in a spring/summer collection, but all the more reason to love it! A year-round purple. (And I’ve really been into purples lately!)

As stunning as Vant to Bite My Neck? was, my most sought-after polish from this collection was actually My Vampire is Buff. On the other end of the spectrum from vamps are my other favourite polish colours: nudes and whites. And guess what My Vampire is Buff is? A near-white nude opaque creme! Aptly named, this polish’s name made me chuckle as I applied it. It kind of looks like a sallow, ghostly vampire’s skin…. lol.

This one needed some patience to apply… like many opaque polishes this close to white, I applied it generously on the first coat, and thankfully it leveled nicely. Here it is with two coats over base:

In some of the pictures I had seen, this polish looked almost white, so I have tried very carefully to capture its authentic colour in daylight (all my direct-sun pictures looked far too white). Isn’t it gorgeous?

You don’t have to wait much longer! The Euro Centrale by OPI will be available February 6, 2013, at Professional Salons and spas. For more information, visit, follow OPI on Twitter @OPI_PRODUCTS and become a Facebook fan!

What do you think of these two very different shades?

(Product provided for consideration and review. All opinions are my own.)

One of the polishes that I tried talking myself out of for weeks was Sonnetarium’s Snowfall. I kept thinking, I don’t need another glitter topper… just walk away.

Then I saw this glorious photo from Chelsea of The Nail Network, and all my thoughts changed to “!!!!!!!!!!!!” That gorgeous nude base!!! (Which reminds me. Why don’t I have Zoya Kennedy yet?)
It really looked like snowfall. I HAD to have it!

But as with all indie polishes you have to “have now,” Snowfall had a long list of fans. And like the much-sought-after Birkin, it was darn near impossible to get!! It seemed like forever, but after some waiting, it arrived!

Snowfall is a clear polish with tiny irridescent and multi-size white hex glitters. The irridescent pieces flash orange, pink, blue in different light. My favourite look with Snowfall is inspired by The Nail Network and is over a white, light or nude colour.

I used a base of an old(er) favourite of mine, OPI’s Canberra’t Without You, a gorgeous nude sheer polish. This poor polish has not received favourable reviews, and I can kind of understand why…. in the bottle, it’s a delicate, gorgeous nude with tiny specks of silver glinting throughout. When you apply the polish, most of those specks don’t make it to the nail. However, I still love this polish and use it often. I’ve just learned to apply it generously to diminish streaking…

Here is OPI’s Canberra’t Without You with two generous coats:

It’s pretty, isn’t it?

And here it is, topped with Snowfall:

Snowfall is still available from Sonnetarium’s online shop, and are 3-free. Sonnetarium offers both 9mL and 15ml sizes, and just restocked the shop!! Don’t forget to follow Sonnetarium on Facebook for the latest news!

So…what do you think?
