You may recall my recent post about broken nail mail – poor Grapetini arrived in pieces, wrapped in purple-coloured bubble wrap. : (

In one of the best customer service experiences I have had so far with frankeners (and there are tons of amazing, incredible indie polish makers out there!) – Rebecca, the creator of Aphrodite Lacquers’ Grapetini, shipped out a replacement the very next day, even though the broken bottle had clearly been wrapped well and the accident was just that, an accident.

So today I have for you—at long last, Grapetini!!

Aphrodite Lacquers Grapetini, from The SandBar collection, is another gorgeous jelly-sandwich-in-a-bottle: a purple jelly with lavender and purple glitter in a base of tiny silver sparkles. It is the perfect purple, rich and royal, and can be built up by adding more layers.

I used Grapetini on its own, though you can definitely layer this beauty!

Here it is, 2 coats of Grapetini over a clear base coat, topped with China Glaze Fast Forward quick-drying top coat. (I skipped the Gelous coat this time and it still ended up perfectly smooth.)

In reality it looks a lot more like the pinky and ring fingers rather than the top two fingers, which look quite sheer in this light.

And here it is at 3 coats:

Here’s a closeup shot so you can see the gorgeous jelly sandwich effect:

Is it not a beauty??

My second polish of the day is Aphrodite Lacquers’ Ambrosia, another SandBar collection polish, a bright, bubblegum pink jelly with purple and light pink glitter, in the same base of tiny silver sparkles that makes these jellies so sparkly.

This polish ended up veering closer to a hot light pink rather than the pink grapefruit colour I imagined. If you are a neon or hot pink fan, this polish is for you!

I also wore Ambrosia on its own, though topped it with a coat of Gelous (out of sheer habit) before adding my top coat. What I love about these glitter polishes is that they are always so smooth after top coat! Some of my other glitter-heavy frankens just don’t seem to smooth out and occasionally end up pulling on a delicate outfit.

Indoors – artificial light

Natural light – with sun

And to show you the jelly sandwich sandwich effect again, here is a macro shot:

Follow Aphrodite Lacquers on Facebook here and find these beauties, along with her new collection, Outta This World, on her Etsy shop!

Psst, she has another new collection coming out as well! Details are on the Aphrodite Facebook page. 🙂

Hope you are having a fantastic long weekend if you are in the US!

I stumbled upon my tag on Amanda Berry’s Facebook page/blog over at Berry Polished, and thought I’d better respond before I forget all about it!  That’s how I usually end up not replying to these types of tags, but this one seemed fun and I made an effort! 🙂

Ok onto the tagging rules!

  • Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
  • You have to choose 11 people to tag and link them on the post.
  • Go to their page and tell them you have linked him or her.
  • No tag backs.
  • No stuff in the tagging section about ‘you are tagged if you are reading this’. You legitimately have to tag 11 people.

Here were the 11 questions I received:

1. What is your favorite color of polish to wear?

Ooh this changes all the time. I love vampy, near-blacks (like Lancelot that I am wearing today…) or sparkly jellies in brights, nudes, and fun glitters.

2. When was the last time you actually kept your nails naked for a significant amount of time?

Probably before I started this blog a few months ago!
3. Do you prefer your nails long or short?

I prefer my nails with just a bit of length (like in the Lancelot pic) though I will let them get a little longer for nude polishes or french manis.
4. Do you have a hidden talent?

Umm… speed-shopping? : )
5. Do you have any pets?

Yes, I have a little boy (ok fine, he’s a Dobie mix) named Rambo. My true true love.
6. Where is the farthest place you have traveled from home?

Recently? By plane?? Los Angeles maybe?
7. What event are you most looking forward to at this years Olympic Games?

Hmmm, not sure… maybe swimming. I do prefer Summer Olympics over the winter ones though.
8. If you could play any instrument, what would it be?

I used to play a little violin. But I’d really like to play piano.
9. If you could have any super power, what would it be and why?

Ooh to be invisible!! I’d love to be a fly on the wall!
10. What is your day job (other than painting your nails of course lol)?

I’m in Human Resources. *(So sometimes have to save my crazy polishes for the weekend lol)
11. Goldfish or Cheez-Its?

Ooh I love love Goldfish crackers because my little nephew eats them! (I’ll steal them when he’s not looking. Or accept him sharing and stuffing them in my mouth. : )

Tag you are it!! I really enjoy reading all your blogs and interacting with you on FB. Please don’t feel obligated to participate – I know I had to sit down and do it immediately or else it wouldn’t have happened…  Or you may have already been tagged and done this! 🙂

Let’s see if I can get 11 people. xo

Is it really terrible of me to borrow Amanda’s questions?? They were great questions! (and my brain’s a little fried, to be honest…)

(Hope you don’t mind, Amanda!)

I recently raved about Hatched, a beautiful pale yellow glitter polish from Whimsical Ideas by Pam. I was so happy with that polish, especially since my search for a gorgeous pale yellow had been long (and mostly fruitless).

Today I have for you Kitty Glitter, another polish from Whimsical Ideas by Pam. This is a beautiful pale blue polish with medium-sized silver hex and tiny silver glitter.

There were no application issues with the glitter, but the base polish is rather sheer, not in a jelly way. I think next time I will definitely use it over a base colour for better coverage.

Here it is with a base coat, 2 coats of Kitty Glitter and a coat of China Glaze’s Fast Forward top coat – the fastest-drying, shiniest top coat.

Indoors – daylight

Direct sunlight

Direct sunlight alternate shot

You can see the beautiful Tiffany-blue base in these shots. I just wish this polish provided a touch more coverage. Hatched was opaque at 2 coats whereas I think Kitty Glitter needs a third coat or a base colour.
Having said this, my favourite shot of Kitty Glitter was this, where it reflects the beautiful blue sky and almost appears silver.

Kitty Glitter and Pam’s other polishes can be purchased from her Facebook page; however, sad news for my international and fellow Canadian readers: she recently changed her policies and now only ships to US addresses. I was so disappointed as I had another order planned.

So what do you guys think? Was this too sheer? Just right?

This is probably the fastest I have rushed to post an entry to my blog after receiving nail mail!

So this is how the evening started. I got home to hubby’s announcement of “nail mail!” (Even he has the lingo down.) Followed by, “…but I think one of them is broken…”

Umm… thank you, USPS / Canada Post?

This was Grapetini – one of the most candy-like, prettiest indie polishes I have seen, courtesy of Aphrodite Lacquers. Rest in peace, Grapetini : (

I was heartbroken. I had been waiting for these gorgeous jelly glitters since discovering Aphrodite two weeks earlier…

Thankfully there were two survivors!

Both of these polishes are just gorgeous, and I had a tough time deciding which one to go with. I finally decided Rum Runner was the way to go. (It was either rum or Rum Runner after the loss of Grapetini… )

Rum Runner is. simply. stunning.

It is the perfect berry jelly, with just enough glitter to look like a jelly sandwich. It has pink and holo glitter pieces with tiny silver specks blended in, and the polish has a lady-like, pretty quality to it. Not too much glitter for those who aren’t glitter fans.

I used a base coat and 3 coats of Rum Runner in these pics, with a coat of Gelous and top coat.

Is this not beautiful??

It looks like a juicy berry squished into a nail polish bottle with some stars grabbed from the skies and tossed in for effect. Just darling.

And to top the beauty of these polishes, Rebecca, Aphrodite Lacquers’ creator, is such a sweetheart, patiently answering all your questions and shipping super-quickly.  If you haven’t discovered her collection, join her Facebook page here or run to her Etsy store and admire those gorgeous pictures! I promise, you will not be disappointed!

I think my next order will be the rest of the collection. (Oh and a Grapetini replacement!!)

Next up, I will try Aphrodite’s Ambrosia and share pics with you guys! ~xo~

And here’s a quick update with a daytime shot of this beauty:

Since I started this blog, I have discovered so many fantastic indie polish makers. One brand I kept hearing about was Cult Nails – I just had not had a chance to try any of these polishes.

When I saw Crystal’s swatches of Cult Nails’ Let’s Get Nekkid collection on her blog, I decided I HAD to try them for myself! And lucky for me, Maria (the founder of Cult) decided to have an amazing sale recently where I snagged three Cult beauties: My Kind of Cool Aid, Swanbourne and Cruisin’ Nude:

First up, the iconic My Kind of Cool Aid – Cult’s very first release! This colour is described as a “gravender” – a beautiful lilac-grey with the slightest hint of shimmer. This polish was a dream to apply, looking quite thick as it went on though the polish was fluid and quick-drying. Two self-levelling coats later….

I love the shimmer you can see in the second pic!

What I found so interesting was how My Kind of Cool Aid appears so much more lilac/grape on me than grey! This is definitely a bit of a chameleon polish, changing appearances on every wearer and in different light.

Up next, Swanbourne. I have probably mentioned my love of vampy polishes – the darker and deeper, the better! I had to have this beauty.

Swanbourne was a rich, chocolate colour with tiny flecks of gold. Like Cool Aid, it felt thick as I applied it – like chocolate fondue – but dried quickly. The only challenge I had with this polish was that if you went over an area with not enough polish on your brush, it left a bit of a patch. A third coat would have provided more even, flawless coverage, but I stopped at two.

Unfortunately I only have indoor shots of Swanbourne which did not do it justice. You only see hints of the gold glimmer, whereas in sunlight the gold really sparkles and dances.

Last but not least, a subtle, dreamy nude that everyone should own: Cruisin’ Nude.

Talk about the perfect shade. Cruisin’ Nude has just enough colour, and the slightest hint of pink and pearly shimmer.

See the pink shimmer?

I fell in love with Cruisin’. The only issue I had with this polish was that it was a little finicky like Swanbourne: if you didn’t get it right on three or four strokes, you would risk leaving behind a patchy area (you can see a little of this on my pinky nail). I think a third coat would have evened this out quite nicely, so I will have to try that. Nevertheless, this is one of those polishes I will use to the last drop!

And finally, for a nice surprising finish, I decided to layer Essie’s LuxEffects top coat in Shine of the Times over my Cult Nails.

Shine of the Times over Cruisin’ Nude. A perfect match. Shine is a flaky polish that shifts to copper and green, and it looked fantastic over Cruisin’!

Here it is swatched over the other Cult beauties:

Do you own any Cult Nails? What is your favourite colour?
